Rebuilding Weber Carbs
I have Weber Carbs on my 1970 911 T. I had it into SCAN and they told me they couldn't set them up as the Shaft is worn in the carb body. It's running REALLY rich and they didn't want to mess with them.
Any recommendations? I was thinking of having them rebuilt. Anyone recommend a good shop to rebuild Webers, or tune them up on my car a bit? Thanks PS - Yup - definitely Webers and not Zenith. I thought 1970 911 T had Zenith carbs?

JWW is not too far away from you. I'd send them down to him unless someone knows a good shop in western Canada.

I know where to get a pair of 40IDA triples, if they have good throttle shafts, they might be cheaper to buy than to rebuild yours. |

You might want to cross-post this to the Pacific NorthWest forum... those guys down there run a TON of older, cool, tweaked stuff.
RDANE alone could probably set you up with where to take them in/around Seattle, assuming you can't find anything around here. $0.02 |

I've got a pair of carbs being repaired at Bieker Engineering in Grants Pass OR right now. ( biekerengineering.com ) Call Harry at 541 955 9777.
He was telling me about a guy who had a set of 46 IDAs that had taken his car to many shops, none of them could get it to run right. He took the carbs off and discovered the throttle shaft was not parallel to the centerline of the carb bores. That was the cause, a Weber factory error. He corrected the error, car runs fine. He also said he could bore out a 46 IDA into 48, and he could do 40s into 44, or 46mm |
