S. Ont Pelican fun run 2007 thread

Wow, long thread title!

Anyway, I thought I'd get the ball rolling early on this, partly because we had such a hell of a time getting dates together last year, and partly because I just got my car all tuned up and ready for the first track day of the season tomorrow which.....got cancelled due to snow, so I'm bummed, thinking about P-cars on a Friday night when I should be working...

Don't know about you guys, but between family stuff, track days and assorted other things to do, my calendar for the summer is quickly filling up.

First off, what does everyone think about lots-of-advance-notice weekday runs? It might be a bit easier to plan a few weekdays, even though not everyone will be able to make each one.

Other than that, for weekends, may I suggest June 9 or 10, or perhaps something in conjunction with (maybe before or after) the UCR concours on June 17? (father's day). UCR hasn't determined the location yet, but apparently it will still be on father's day. As this is my first father's day ever, I get to choose where the family goes, and we're going to the concours!

There's also Canada day weekend (the Sat. is June 30), or the weekend of July 21/22. My other free weekends are May 12, 26, June 9/10, July 21/22, July 28, Aug. 4/5, Aug. 18, 25/26. (yep, that's it all summer - told you it was filling up!)

I'd love to host everyone here again for a bbq - it was great having all those cars here 2 summers ago.

Anyway, hopefully with enough advance planning we can pull a few runs off.

BTW, if anyone is looking for track dates for the summer, email or pm me - I've compiled everything I could find for Mosport, TMP and Dunnville. (sorry, no Shannonville)

Hope to see everyone soon!

Chris

Sounds like fun Christien. I work Evenings so during the week is difficult or impossible. I am taking June/July & August off work this summer so getting out to some meets this year shouldn't be a problem. The wife is preparing a huge "honey do" list but I can work around it. I haven't met anyone from the gatherings yet other than Mark 87'930..... now if the weather would shape up

Well, as usual, I'm up for anything. And anytime I'm in town.

I'm always up for a run. Chris, were you able to get those track day dates online? I'm still only able to access each file separately..

Thanks,

I'd be in to that as well. Weekdays are fine if I'm in town.

Okay, what a freakin crazy year!!

Count me in!

The engine was completely rebuilt last summer. Runs great. Almost everything was replaced with new, original parts.
Now I just gotta get the brakes done.

Hopefully we can get the old gang together for another great run.

Jimmy

Really great to see you again! Looking forward to seeing the old girl again. My son still remembers you arriving in a cloud of smoke a couple years ago..

June 9 or 10? Yes/no/could be?

I have several runs documented. Arshad (NSXPrime) & Mark (Corvetteforum) & I are in the prelims of planning a Niagara run of exotics. Now last year, they restricted Porsches due to shear numbers to leave room for the Fcars, Lambos & such. Only 3 were in the run. A 996, a 930 & mine. It was a great run but we annoyed everyone everywhere we went. And I didn't feel good about this.

I am sure that the same situation will arise again. So . . .

We could do the run at an alternate time or day. Start in Stoney Creek. Maybe a bag lunch in a park around Niagara. Or something else possibly. End at a winery. Or we could do the Milton run or the Elora run etc etc.

Interest? Suggestions encouraged.

Ian

June 9 and 10 are actually both open for me. (I think it's my only empty weekend this summer!)

My $0.02: Ferraris, Lambos, NSXs, Corvettes, etc. are all nice, but I think we know where our hearts are I've got a blow-up of one of the pics of all the 911s outside my house on the wall in our kitchen. I stared at it every day during the winter while I ate my breakfast. I'd like to see that again! (though I'd like to see some other models as well)

As for routes, it doesn't really matter to me. However, depending on the route (and Stef) I'd love to host everyone here for a bbq, either at the beginning or the end. It'll give us that extra motivation to finally get the painting finished! However, this is all pending the blessing of my better half...

The Niagara route is a combo of a partial PCA run & a Vette run that Mark did. I know the PCA part works in reverse but the Vette portion - St Kitts to Niagara-on-the-Lake would have to be checked. If Stef is willing, we could end at your place. Just need a route there from Ridge Rd/New Mountain Rd, Stoney Creek.

Nice of you to offer, Chris.

Do you mean a route to my place from Ridge Rd? Well, you're not going to like it - the Linc. That's about it. Ridge ends (west end) at Centennial parkway, and from there you're on city streets or the Linc to our house.

The only other option is to take a wide path south of Hamilton. If you want to extend things a bit, Old Dundas/Old Ancaster Rd. is an absolutely stunning drive - massive twisties, crazy elevation changes, all through forest, but it's rare you get to drive it yourself, so speeds are often slow. And even if you do get it to yourself, it can be dangerous to fly through there because of all the blind corners and lack of sidewalks. But it *is* beautiful.

From Ridge, you'd take a couple country roads south and west over towards the airport (judging by google maps, they're all straight and boring) then wind through Dundas and Ancaster. This would easily add an hour to the run, I'd think. From Ridge to my place via Mudd St and the Linc is about 20-25 min, so easily double that, probably triple to take the scenic route.

How's June 9th or 10th shaping up. If it happens then, it will be a first for me in a summer or two. I hope everyone is up for it.

Chris, got a brand new Porsche fan from our host, cheaper than any used ones I found..
