Anyone bought NEW in the US?

I'm thinking Boxster S these days, but am really bored with all the silver/black/grey cars choking the roads. Scanning eBay, US/CDN autotraders the selection of say arena red boxsters that aren't tips and have the right goodies (PASM, Sport Chrono, adaptives) is really sparse.

With CDN $ strength, I'm tempted to buy new in the US (not Cdn prices) if I can't find the right used '07 or '08.

I can see a gem of a trip here - order a new Boxster in Florida with euro delivery, take a German vacation then a cross-US trip back here. Wow - what a way to get to know your new car.

Does anyone have experience buying a new Porsche and bringing it directly to Canada? Seems like a good chain of events to pizz off the PCNA people.

Yeah, ahh, Ken have you seen all the issues/articles on not getting service in Canada for a US bought car. Porsche says nine, or at least you wait.. Have a search around for some interesting threads on Rennlist.

You mean Cdn porsche dealers will not want to make money servicing a car because it was bought in the US?

I'll take a look through Rennlist. Thanks for the info.

Are you referrring to new specifically, or all US porsches brought into Canada.

I think the main issue is/was with warranty work... which is not exactly a "cash cow" for dealerships.

Double check that RIV list, as it is changing weekly now. Not sure about Porsche, but BMW just de-listed their late model cars I am told. Now have to go through the local dealer for CDN inspection and compliance. Potentially a 2 month wait to get into the dealer and an expensive inspection if they decide to throw the book at you.

You're right - looks like Porsche has taken their '08 MY vehicles off the list. The RIV list now says that "you should check with Porsche NA for '07 and '08 MY vehicles manufactured after Sept. 2007.

So this is how they head us off at the pass and keep their fatter Canadian margins - just strike their cars off the RIV list, end of discussion.

It would be nice if the Canadian feds determined importability rather than letting the manufacturers speak to Canadian compliance because it allows for this kind of abuse. But I suppose that would impose a ridiculous infrastructure need on the government.

I was looking at Dodge Sprinter based class B motorhomes last year (alright, hold the laughter). Unknown to me, it seems that the vast majority of these are manufactured in Canada. I kinda embarassed myself on a US RV website asking questions about technicals and best places to buy. The forum members were quick to remark that it was pretty funny for a Canadian to be asking for this kinda information when the things are built right in my backyard.

But, guess what? Canadian manufacturers offer limited range of models in Canada compared to the US and the prices are about 40% higher in Canada.
Ridiculous! A class B made in Manitoba sells for $120K in Vancouver or 80-90K in Spokane. But you can't buy a new one in Spokane and bring it into Canada because Dodge won't honour the chassis warranty (or at least so I'm told by the Canadian manufacturer).

Absurd situation, but just as well - it helped me to decide that I really didn't need a Class B afterall.

Canada imposed stricter anti-theft requirements for 2008. As far as I know almost every vehicle sold in the US does not meet the requirements, so you can not import them.
