attn plse vancouver pelicans, anyone know this car?

a 1983 930, ebay listing. his write-up makes me gag but seems a decent car.

Don't know the car, but this:

"Canadian VIN Assigned by ICBC: 000000AR11818 "

should raise some red flags. Usually this means evidence of VIN tampering exists.

Been advertised on eBay a few times now and also in other Vancouver listings. Was trying to get mid 40's for the car.

Interesting to note his comment on 18 October that the reserve has been met, yet the eBay listing says Reserve Not Met.

Share the same concerns on the "assigned VIN" but don't know ICBC's rules for this.

I phoned him yesterday and he said the VIN was a temporary one(?) and no longer applies. He said the registration shows the correct "WPO" VIN. I looked through his bills, which indicate it has had some issues recently, and found that although his ad said top and bottom rebuild, the bills show rings, used cylinders, and new valves and guides. I saw no reference to a bottom end rebuild. Of course for $15k, does it matter?
As for the reserve, someone withdrew his bid, which dropped it below the reserve, from what I could see.

He incorrectly stated that these cars were unavailable to Canada in 1983. It was only unavailable to U.S. but in Canada, the 930s were available with Euro specs between 80-85.

Interesting as I also phoned him. I also noted that he was trying to sell in the 40's then dropped it to 15. I gave him a call and the ebay ad had been withdrawn. He said ebay was not working right and that the 15 was best offer. He suspected that it would go for 25. At that point the water was to muddy for me.

Would be interested to hear more about this one though.

Cheers

it's kind of funny, he had a craigslist ad at the same time as the ebay auction. for '$15000 US must sell by the end of the week!' . ad has changed now but here's the link.

"Canadian VIN Assigned by ICBC is the the same as the original German VIN: WP0ZZZ93ZDS000552."
Still fishy. ICBC does not assign VINs to cars with clean VINs. There's no need for ICBC to assign and make up a VIN tag that's the same as what's already on the car.

"Import Duty 6.1% $ 2,287.50 "

There's no duty on cars 25 years old or older. This car is 25 years old.
I also think it is not gonna get collector plates with those aftermarket wheels.

This seems a little bizzare... Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's a fairly good price for a car that age? 15k is pretty low for a turbo in as good condition as descibed...

15K is a pretty good price if that is what he would take. I believe the reason he has taken off of E-Bay is because he has some people that are interested and now wants more than the 15. I asked if anyone had done a PPI on it which his responce was no not yet there are a number of people that want to though. Then he went on to say he figured that it would sell for 25. Still seems really fishy.

I think he took it off because it cleared the reserve price briefly, at just over $15k USD. That bidder withdrew his bid, and no one bid after that. But it looked like anyone could have it at 15, and he was afraid, so he pulled it. All speculation on my part, of course.

I was the bidder that pulled out. the non-matching paperwork spooked me. why does a 60K mile engine need a full rebuild anyway? even turbos last longer than that. he had it for 15K US on the craigslist ad so the same on ebay shouldn't bother him. FWIW I think I'll wait for a 'cleaner' car. one with less strange goings-on.

and the whole ebay write-up made me nauseous.

A assigned vin usually means that something happened to one of the vins on the car.....I looked at a 914 a few yrs ago that had a assigned vin from the Province of Manitoba. The car was missing the vin tag on the window hoop. I called the DMV and asked what was up and they had assigned the vin because the front windshield hoop was replaced and the vin tag wasn't put on the replacement.

The car listed above could have been stolen and recovered with a tampered vin and the government then assigns a replacement vin.

A few of our local guys went and checked it out. Interesting thread on our local PCA site:

http://www.pca-cwr.org/index.php?module=phpwsbb&PHPWSBB_MAN_OP=view&PHPWS _MAN_ITEMS=1798

Talks about the "real" price, and the issues with the car, if you're interested.

But yeah, sounds like a POS.

Wow... the insanity continues!

He's back, and at twice the asking price.

Go check out this thread for some of the funny interactions he's had with our local PCA members:
