importing 911 carrera cab

I am picking up a 2001 911 Carrera cab on Friday at Lewiston Bridge. I have faxed all of the documents on Monday and I have a temp. plate from Ill. The title is in my name and I have the insurance slip from Ontario. Porsche sent me the recall letter and I think I'm good to go. From reading previous posts, I think that the digital speedo can be switched, right? Does anyone have the digital airbag photo? What happens about the seat tethers? Will the DRL hack with the fuse mods work on this? Any other mods that I need to consider? Great site!

Hi,
Congrats on the new toy.
Yes the digital display you can switch to kph (I think you turn the knob for about 5 seconds)
You'll need to show the tethers not necessarily install them and if you do it's not a big deal because the car is prepared for that.
About the DRL the hack is simple, just force the fog lamp relay to the closed position and voila (that is the cheap way) the better way is to buy the relay (I hope the 996 is like that)

Good luck!

I need it back before November! I'm still looking for air bag sticker photos.
The pick up has been delayed till Monday, dealer late by an hour with fax to customs. They are strict with 72 hrs.

Well, I got her home today! My 2001 911 Cab was delivered to the Lewiston bridge. I drove to US Customs and less than 5 minutes, out the door with stamped form. I showed them title and they matched it to car. Proceeded to Canada Customs and was given yellow slip for inspection. Showed bill of sale, title, and filled out Form 1. Paid 6.1 % duty, GST and A/C tax $100. I left with form 1 about 10 minutes later. No hassle yet. Drove to Toronto RIV office and showed form 1, title and recall letter, paid the fee and left with form #2. Started today at 1:15 pm at Lewiston and finished in Toronto at 4 pm. Was home in Woodbridge at 4:45. Did my DRL hack in about 10 minutes and printed French labels. CTC tomorrow for RIV inspection, certification and Emission test. Then PST and plates. I used Illinois temp tag and my insurance covered me while in Canada on a temp binder.

No, just turn the dial to KMs, air bag sticker (see attached picture I printed on label paper) and car seat tether.

Gorgeous colour combination. I've been thinking about doing the same, as the idea of having a 996 daily driver is so tempting. I drove a coupe at the local PCA Autox, and was pleasantly surprised how much it drove like my beast, if not so raw...
