2009 NE Oregon Drive - Oct 9, 10 and 11

We had some much fun with this drive in the past that we are doing it again this Fall.

A number of us Canadians and Americas will be meeting early in Isaquaah, Washington of Friday morning. From there we will head to The Dallas, Oregon via some of the great Washington back roads.

We will headquarter at The Dalles Inn, The Dalles, Oregon for Friday and Saturday nights.

http://www.thedallesinn.com/

Located in historic downtown The Dalles at 112 West 2nd Street. Map info.....http://www.thedallesinn.com/html/map.html

I have obtained the corporate rate for us $79 for a single queen and $89 for a double queen. Please book your room individually. Just mention the Porsche Club when you register. This rate is available until September 25th. The hotel has agreed to have a car wash station in the parkade.

Saturday will be a run on some of the best roads Oregon has to offer. This year we will focus on the twisty parts. Expect an all day drive on some fantastic roads.

Sunday drive is to be determined. But, they will be backroads and twisty.

Post here if you will be joining us.

Let me know your suggestions for Friday and Saturday dinner.

Look forward to seeing everyone again.

Cheers.

Wouldn't miss it! I couldn't wait... I drove some of these roads on my way back from Monterey in August. It was the best part of the trip home!

Hi Charlie, I'm wondering how many miles (from the lower mainland) would you suppose that you would cover over those three days? Looks like a great end of season tour. Thanks, Tony

This is a long drive - approx. 2500 kms over the 3 days. The weekend focus is driving with some socializing in the evenings.

Cool

Yep, long drive but there is nothing better if you like curves.
Check tire pressure, (And how much thread is left)
Tighten CV bolts,
Oil/grease the fulcrums on the clutch levers,
If it is really hot in OR, add a can of Engine Oil Supplement (EOS) available from GM Dealers, Lordco..........

Great advice. I'm curious though, what's the reasoning behind the engine oil supplement recommendation? I've always been adverse to adding anything other than fresh oil into my crankcase...

Cool

Experience from past years tells me that the group will be arriving late in The Dalles.
Then, a mad scramble to find a grease-pit for a late supper followed by a short night with heart-burn and inadequate REM periods.

I am planning to go the The Dalles this coming Monday to check out the Dream-Tour-Route again because once a year is not enough; three times is about right.

Have fun doing the Princeton tour this Sunday.

We are booked. Has anyone eaten at Romul's Italian Restaurant in the Dalles!
Reviews?
The more important Question #2. Has anyone driven Maryhill Loop Road. It is east off #14 on Hwy 97 towards Goldendale?
Looks awesome. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=44106 368
It is just north of Stonehenge.
In the drop down search menue click on my space and type Maryhill Loop Road Goldendale Wa. Check out the fifth video with the Audi Allroad

Thumbs up

Where are the US participants?

Just had three days of sunshine, curves and bliss.

Check out the pictures:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/pacific-northwest-us-wa-id-ut-hi-ak/491082-october-9-10-11-dalles-oregon-tour-2009-a-post4903731.html#post4903731

Drove the proposed roads BOTH ways and they’re in superb condition; some new paving as well and VERY little traffic.

It’s like an addiction; NE Oregon is tops.

It's about 8 hours of "zippy" driving, not counting rest stops.

Have done this tour about 6 times now and cannot get enough.

Plan to come along in October for a super experience!

Send a message via ICQ to WolfeMacleod
There is a slight possibility that I may attend, if I can talk someone into an extended date...

Hello,
Question about the schedule. I am in 75 minutes away from the Dalles in Portland. What time are you leaving on Saturday? If I were to stay one night in the Dalles, which night should that be? Sounds like fun.

Thanks,
Larry

Hi Larry,

Unless you want to start early from Portland on Saturday to get to The Dalles before the drive starts, Friday night is best so you can participate in the long drive Saturday morning starting at 8:00. (Or at 7:30 if I had my way)

I've tried several times over the years to up with the group on the way without success.
Something always happened causing hours of delay.

So, I just drive to The Dalles, check in and meet up whenever they arrive.

BTW: Is Monday, the 12th, Thanksgiving Holiday in the States?

charlie;
i just made my reservation and they quoted $89 and $99 which is more than your quote of $79. can you call the manager and straighten this out? the $89 rate seems like it's no discount at all since that's their 'regular' rate for a queen as quoted on their website.

I think we'll need to get some idea about total numbers for a discount at the hotel.

How many from the US?

How many from Canada?

At the last CanAm, someone by the name of Jay said he would attend as well as the 2 guys with the blue turbos.

nize: Can you contact these guys to find out if they'll come along?
