rechroming brake disks

A question; has anybody ever attempted to hard chrome worn brake disks rather than replace them. If this is not feasible why not? The chrome would be much harder
[chromium carbide] than the original metal so would wear more slowly.IMHO

I think chrome would be far too hard--and therefore brittle--to work well as a brake disk material. I think it would be prone to flaking, especially when you consider the fearsome heat that it would be exposed to. The underlying metal would expand, and I would bet that this (and the friction of the brake pad material) would cause the chrome plating to flake off.

Might be worth a try, but if it works well I wonder why we haven't seen it already...

You might want to talk to some materials folks before you try it on your own car.
