944 erradic temperture gauge readings

I, like hundreds of others, experience crazy readings from my 944's temperature gauge. It's no fun driving when you are always wondering if your "baby" is overheating or not. I have read dozens of tips and fixes to correct this problem. I've tried them all to no avail. I'm no ace mechanic, but I went to Harbour Freight and bought a point and shoot lazer therometer - 35 bucks. When my car "appeared" to be overheating, I shot the head right next to the temperature sending sensor. The reading was under 200 degrees. I shot the upper radiator hose and it read approximately 165 degrees. That's the temperature that the thermostat should be opening. This tells me that my car is not overheating. I'm still trying to solve my gauge problem, but I can drive my car and not wonder if I'm overheating. The satisfaction is well worth 35 bucks! I hope this easy check will help some of us with this very common 944 problem. Jerrry 944
