Chris, Yup, Nova here.. near Dulles Airport. I am a PCA Potomac member. On and off SCCA member. Used to do a lot of DE events but now mostly just AX events as free time is harder to come by! I haven't made it up to a Katies event yet, although my neighbor tells me "I have to go.. its a blast".. so maybe someday! -Dave

I see you are in Northern Va. Are you a PCA member or SCCA? Attend any events? I have a '70 six I want to get involved in "something" with the car. I sometimes attend Katies Cars & Coffee in Great Falls. Chris

When my SC was new to me, I ran 205-50-15 front and 225-50-15 rear and this combo worked very well with the then nearly 30 y/o suspension, using "R" comp tires. (Ran RA-1's, R1's and Khumo Victoracers)

I then upgraded suspension (23/30 torsion bars, 22mm sways and custom bilsteins). With this, I also upgraded to 16" wheels, first 7 and 8x16s, then 8 and 9x16s, but on both sets of 16's I ran 225-50-16 front and 245-45-16 rear. (Toyo RA-1

I also liked to throttle steer the car and used its rear weight bias to my advantage.

That said, I wouldn't want to widen the rear track (running spacers) AND use narrow (205) front rubber, as this will likely lead to understeer. Running 205/225 would be fine.

I also ran against a fellow who ran 225-50's front and rear (15" maybe) and he loved the square set up. he loved how the front would stay planted and yet the rear would come around nicely.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Racer, a quick question.
I got into autox racing this year with my 1978 911 SC, mostly factory aside from a lowering kit and a short shift and required mods like the CIS Box release valve which was done long before my time.
Anyhow I am looking at tires sizes as I currently have 6/7 fuchs and was reading a thread you had a few years ago on sizes and was wondering if 205/55/16 front and 245/45/16 rear with a rear 23mm spacer would be a good setup, I am not seeing a lot on older cars and it looks like you race a lot so should have some across this before. I saw you did not recommend the 225/245 on 6/7 which makes sense but id like to keep the 6 but may go to an 8 on the rear but was not sure if 205/245 combo would get me into trouble, any advise would be helpful.
As far as rubber goes I'm thinking of Toyo RA-1s, currently my Khumo XS are nearly worn out.
