Sorry, I don't know much of anything about most of the BMWs, especially the M30 ones. In a 914, I'd say to check the steering interlock, which can cause the ignition key to stick sometimes (you wiggle the steering wheel a bit to unstick it), but I don't really know bout the Bimmers.
