Sway bars were an option on the 914, not all of them came with them. The good news is that the front is pretty easy to install. Look in the Tech Articles section of this website for the one about installing the 914 front sway bar. You do have to drill some holes, and on a 74 you will need to cut or grind some reinforcing sheet metal, but it's not difficult.
