Oil return tube

Just a quick question....

I did my first oil change on my daughter's 1993 300 SD Turbo Diesel last week, using the Clymer's manual as a guide. I removed the oil return tube from the middle of the filter and, as suggested, I blew through it to make sure air would flow. When it didn't, I started trying to figure out what kind of blockage there was (a very solid one!) but was unsuccessful in removing the clog.

I called my Porsche mechanic (who has Mercedes technicians in his shop) and was told that there shouldn't be a "free flow" through this tube, which I considered odd, as there was nowhere else for the oil to go! When the car is started, the oil pressure immediately "maxes out" (which tells me I have a blocked line somewhere). I told my daughter her car is parked until we can get some good input as to whether the tube should be blocked or clear.

I get two stories, one from the manual, one from the mechanic. Any ideas?
