Need help with a 944 part today - 8/24
We busted the plastic radiator drain plug on my son's 944 while servicing the cooling system. Looking for a local replacement that we can pick up today or tomorrow morning.
It is the blue plastic plug, M10 with 1.5 threads. New or used doesn't matter. If you have one or know where I could find one, call or text me at 386-five 2 three-735zero. Thanks ![]()

I have a a variety of interior parts but haven't had the time to take a good inventory.
Off the top of my head, door panels, upper dash (cracked), lower dash, a/c heat controls, center console, glove box, dash knobs, blaupunkt radio... I will try and get some pictures and inventory tonight. |

Mo money = mo parts

Does anyone know a shop in the area that has the tools to swap the carrier bearings in my diff, then confirm that pre-load and backlash are correct? I started tearing down my transmission and am comfortable swapping all the parts on the gear stacks, but think I will let someone else do the differential. I have not confirmed that my races are still tight, so I guess an additional ask for the shop would be that they could do the machine work necessary if the races are loose. Thanks.
PS - Just for the heck of it, I called Sewickley Porsche since it seems like Porsche is pushing Porsche Classic. Anyway, they told me they could and estimated it would take 15-20 hours. I was like "Ahh...the transmission is out of the car, and will only be bring you the diff." The guy stumbled around and said that they never know what they are getting. $1,500-$2,000, are you kidding? I will ship it to CMS in Calif, have them do the work and return it for $500-600.

I received an email from a local member asking advice on a shop for his 914.
I have my own thoughts but no personal experience with vintage. I’m thinking Fowler’s FAST Co and a George Riggin. Maybe C&G. Is Pete’s European still in business? I know Sewickley has plenty of 914 experience. Please take a look and I’ll get back to him with suggestions from the Pelican Brain Trust! Thanks in advance. BTW I don’t know him, never met. Just trying to help an enthusiast. I am a member of the club and looking for advice on a shop that can repair a 1971 914 with a modified 2.2 liter 4cyl with Weber carburetors in the Pittsburgh area. Car had a major overhaul 4 years ago and was running good.I was having hard time getting in and out of the car, so I purchased a 1999 911 Carrara and gave to my son the 914, wanting to keep it in the family since having it for 26 years . The 914 was sitting out in the heavy rain after a life being garaged. Now I can't get it to run right again. It misses and back fires when you try to run it. I checked things over and over again like the wires ,plugs, distributor and carburetors. It looks like it got some water down the left carburetor in number 2. Noticed when I changed the plugs when the motor was warm, number two seemed cooler then the rest. Also tested spark plug wires with inline tester and everything looked good. I hoping there is no internal damage from the water. |
