An '87 Turbo in the North Hills. Nice. Where in the North Hills. I know of a couple of SC's, but no Turbos. I'm near McKnight and Babcock.

Franklin Park, near the elementary school. Got the car in July and in the middle of making it mine.

Changed signature from Looking for a 930, to...

Nice car Aggie93. I like your plan. We'll all have to meet up this summer some time.

Nice car! Welcome to the Pittsburgh thread. I'm in Upper St. Clair with a '78 SC under reconstruction.

I'm a maybe. I've never been there and want to go, but just got my engine in last weekend. I still need to hook it up and set up my whole suspension. I am in this situation every year, trying to button up my car to get in on the road vs going to Hershey.

When were you thinking of leaving and coming back?

As of right now, I'm planning a long one day trip. Leave early Saturday AM and return late Saturday night. It looks like my wife will be out of town so the kids will be along for the ride. I'll take the Suburban as I will be looking for front fenders, dash pad, front valance, bolt in roll bar/cage. All big stuff.

I would really like to go, but I weaseled my way out of a trip with my wife, so she'd probably get upset with me if I went to a swap meet instead. Plus there's the whole getting my winter projects wrapped up to deal with.

Glenn, if you can't find a valance, let me know. I have one with fogs and spoiler and another with no fogs or spoiler mothballed away.

I'm looking for something IROC-ish with a center mount oil cooler opening and brake cooling ducts. Got anything like that?

Sorry, but no.

I wanted to delete my fog lights, so picked up a non-fog light front valance here, but it had no spoiler. 2 weeks later, I found the tail I wanted for sale here, the previous owner lived in Jersey and wouldn't ship it. When I arrived, he asked if I wanted a pair of bumpers for free. I said yeah, and he had everything, including a fog-light delete front valance with spoiler already installed. So I sat the other 2 valances in storage and keep forgetting to list them for sale.

Good luck with your search in Hershey.

Quick update on my Hershey score:

Found a solid pair of front fenders, fiberglass copy of the early whale tail (in excellent condition) and a sweet DAS Sport bolt in (with seat brace, never installed and already powder coated).

I did run across a valance that I wanted but after seeing it the first time, I couldn't find it again.

In preparation, I would like to know where "younz" guys get your air cooled Porsche's serviced?

Also any good leads on a 89 - 92 Targa

Thanks and be happy

Buy yourself a Bentley manual, 101 Projects for Your Porsche, and stay tuned here and you can do just about anything yourself. Having said that, I got my 911 aligned at Pete's European Techniques last year and they did a bang up job.

Welcome to Pelican, Gary!!

For just about everything that doesn't require unique and expensive tools, I use a little garage at my house.

I have heard good things about Pete's European Techniques but haven't used them yet.

+1 on the Bentley Manual. With that and help from this board you can do just about anything and can find someone to lend a hand.

I'll keep my eyes open for a car for you. Are you looking for any specific features, color, etc? How far are you willing to travel for the right one? (I went 500 mi) And finally, what is your budget?

Hi Glen,

Actually I am looking for a need nothing 911 targa to enjoy driving in the summer.
A nice clean, original that will require nothing but regular maintenance.

In other words, I want the best 911 Targa I can find with around a $25,000 budget.

If this is possible??

I would travel up to 500 miles for the right one, no problem.

I've never had a Porsche 911, or driven one, but it has been my dream to have one for years.

I have been doing some research, to educate myself, in preparation for the looking & buying process, but I don't think it is going to be too easy.

It seems you need someone who knows Porsche's to help with the deciding.

I have read that when purchasing one you should positively get a PPI from another source, but getting a trustworthy, accurate inspection of all major points of the vehicle before buying is a big "How To" question mark for me.

I've been looking at Holts & AIC (nice cars) but they are top end price. Hoping to find similar 911 Targa's at a lower cost.

I went to Hershey this year and it was my first close up look at 911's.
Great time & will go again next year.

Are there any other meets in the Pa area?

Glenn,

A friend of mine got a windshield from Safelite once and said it was very reasonable. I priced a 993 windshield, and since I wasn't charging the insurance company, they wanted a small fortune; my 911 windshield was fine, so I didn't bother pricing a 911 windshield.

Wizard,

I know you said you're looking for an 89-94 Targa. I'm not as aware of the market prices for 964's, but I know the general rule of thumb for Carrera SC's is that a good one will run you $20k. No matter how you cut it. You'll either spend it fixing up a cheap one (or more) or you'll buy a good one for that much.

As far as local meets go, there is a weekly Cars and Coffee in Robinson, but it isn't Porsche specific. Also, the local PCA has meets from time to time, but you need to own a Porsche to join. I'd offer to take you to one in my 911, but it currently has it's butt in the air with the engine lying on the floor and its gearbox in Virginia.

Folks on the technical board can help you find a good mechanic to do a PPI just about anywhere in the world. So don't worry about that.

It has been my experience that cars sold at Hershey, through the PCA and other Porsche/exotic car channels are over priced. You might want to start with an WTB add here on Pelican.

General rule of thumb is to buy the best you can afford.
