Glenn, that's really bad news. I'll keep my ear to the ground.

I've been out of town. Hopefully the gearbox will be ready to pick up this weekend.

Forgive a bit of newbie wide open question.....

Taking my 911 down to calabro's to get aligned after new tie rods, anti-rub kit and new front tires are on. Calabro's has pretty good reputation with older 911's. Anything i need to tell them? Reading that corner balancing is crucial for good alignment - is that something they will cover as well?

They probably won't do a corner balance unless you ask them to. Get a price up front because it could be a good bit of work.

I have only been there once. They seem to do good work, but they're a bit of a production shop - working on so many Hyundai's, Honda's and Toyota's. I know John Rayisch sends his tire and alignment stuff over there.

Honestly, unless you car is way out of whack, you will probably never notice the benefit from a corner balance on the street. If they will let you, I would get measurements from the center of the t-bar covers to their alignment rack on all four corners so you have accurate measurements on your ride height. Measuring from the t-bar covers is going to be way more accurate than fender heights. At that point, you can make a decision on corner balance/ride height. At a minimum, I would get a four wheel alignment.

Pittsburgh Pelicans: Help Needed

To All:
While prepping my car this week for the U.S. Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen next week, I had an oil line failure. I am searching for a replacement "S Hose" which runs from the oil tank to the engine oil cooler. This is for a 1971 911E which has the 30mm X 1.5mm connections on each end. The part number is 901-107-301-13. I ordered one overnight shipping Friday but it never showed up. If you happen to have one, please call me.
Thanks,

Sorry Kevin. I checked to see if my car had the same hose (since mine is in pieces) but no that line is not used in my 3.0.

Kevin -

Hope this works out - wish i could help. The only thing i have is an extra vacuum hose....from my vacuum.

This vintage grand prix sounds like my idea of heaven, even to see as a spectator. Was looking to do a fun day at nelson. Whats the track like compared to beaverun, mid-ohio, etc?

Will - is your tranny in yet?

To all:
The hose arrived today and is already installed and working well, thanks for the support!

Will: The gearbox/engine is all back in the car and working great.

As far as the Ledges, all these years I have only crewed or spectated there, never have driven the circuit. Everyone says it's a fast, less technical but yet fun drive. Best of luck and keep us posted as to your experiences.
Thanks,
Kevin

Reshooting primer on the doors today. I screwed up the first attempt last weekend. (still learning) Hopefully I can get primer on the engine lid(s) and hood today, too.

I got back from vacation 1:30am Sunday, took a 4 hour nap and then drove 4.5 hours to Va to pick the gearbox up, hauled it back, watched the Steelers game, and then came to work on a further 4 hours of sleep.

The wife wants to have a party this weekend, so work on it will have to wait. I'm thinking of using a vacation day next weekend (the 21st) to put it all back together. But more likely it will be doing some work here and there.

Anybody have a door hinge shim they want to part with? I seem to have misplaced one.

I also can't figure out where I put the bolts that attach the engine lid to the hinges. If anyone has four of those lying around, I'll be happy to take them off your hands, too.

We went to St. John for a week. It was pretty spectacular. Saw a nice boat docked in St. Thomas, "Pirates Lady." It was a really nice boat totally decked out in Pittsburgh Pirates colors.

Never mind. I'm an idiot... when I tightened the bolts completely the door shifted to where it is supposed to be.
