Anybody know a junk yard around here that handles Porsches? I need to source some body parts for rust repair.

mdmiller911 09-27-2010 05:40 PM

junk yards

I think there is a VW yard around Greensburg that has some Porsche stuff. I'll be willing to bet its 944/924/928 though.

magnuskgc 09-28-2010 02:56 AM

As much as I hate to give this guy any business because of how bad he screwed me.. Check weekendrides.com. He is in Scranton.
Just make sure you get EVERYTHING you are promised.

i have had good luck posting for wanted on the parts classified here.

I bought fenders and am getting doors...from here.

You may want to call Greater Pittsburgh Collision Works. They're a body shop over near the airport and have done tech sessions in conjunction with the local PCA chapter. Another option would be to call Pete's Euro Techniques also near the airport, Pete is a great guy and freely shares info. Last, John Rayish (Porsche Specialties) in Bridgeville (412) 221-1855. They may be able to point you to someone local.

Different direction, try www.car-part.com. It's an on-line system that the junkyard's use to inventory parts. It showed Flowers in Smithton, PA (about 20 miles from you) has a front right - I've been to that one, and front left is over in Malvern, OH about 75 miles - never been there.

Good luck. Looks like a substantial winter project. I'm busy with a house addition, but would be happy to offer some help.

mdmiller911 09-29-2010 05:19 PM

Pete is a GREAT guy. Always willing to help. I didn't get that feeling when I met John Raysich.....

Thanks Guys!!

Here's another idea - What specialty tools do you have that you might make available for loan/rent and what tasks/projects have you done that you could serve as the "voice of experience" to someone trying it for the first time?

Me? Tools I have:

a home made engine dolly (double thickness plywood on casters)
engine stand with engine yoke
tie rod tool
rear suspension adjusting wrench (real thin)
large allen wrench for Transmission drain plug
long allen wrench used for adjusting CIS

Tasks I have done:

engine/transmission removal
clutch adjustment
replace flywheel and clutch
remove and replace clutch throwout arm
front wheel bearings
installed turbo tie rods
installed A/C
rebuild brake calipers
adjust parking brake
adjust heater cables
replace throttle bushings
replace clutch cable
replace shift bushings
remove windshield
Alternator replacement
MDS ignition install
distributor rebuild

All of this on my '78SC

Glad to help, if I can.
