2014 Mini Cooper S battery change/sync

Wifes car so don't mess with it much but needs a battery … I understand it will need a resync after replacement.

Is there any way to do this with ab OBD2 device?

Can I keep a charge thru the cables while changing...wire another 12 volt to the cables, disconnect, replace, connect...so there is a constant charge in the system without causing mayhem.... the dealer is 1.5 hours away.

i think the foxwell scanner tools can do it. however I am not 100% on that.
many independent shops that do bmw can do this also.
the issue is the computer controls how the battery is charged and it needs to know how old the battery is otherwise it will overcharge and destroy the new battery.

That's only if it has the Intelligent Battery System. Look for a gizmo on the battery cables; if there isn't an electrical box on the cable near the battery, you don't have to code it.

In the image below (taken from our Tech Article on battery replacement) the purple arrow points to the IBS gizmo.
