R56 non-turbo Tempurature Concerns
I have 2 R56's, 2008 and 2009. Recently, i replaced the timing chain, water pumps and thermostats on both cars. The 2008 is an automatic and the 2009 is a 6spd manual. I installed the cravenspeed flexpod set in both cars to monitor oil pressure and temperature.
My 2008, runs warm. Operating temp is currently running about 230 degrees. My 2009, runs at about 190 degrees. electric fans work on both at operating temp. I changed oil and filter for both cars. I cannot believe that the Automatic Trans makes the 2008 run so much hotter. *** is it possible to get a cooler thermostat for the R56 N12B16 non-turbo? |
No the thermostats are electronically controlled, its possible your water pump is getting old or the radiator needs to be replaced and the system flushed.

My 2012 non-S runs at 220F, but can be convinced to drop to a lower temperature by turning the A/C on and a few other things.
230F would worry me at least a bit. The 190F is a bit puzzling, but there could be some other circumstance that is telling the ECU to control to the lower temperature. --DD |
