Coolant leak domino effect
 

2007 Mini Cooper s turbo had begun overheating, water boiling in the reservoir, white smoke front driver’s side near the reservoir. Pulled codes and saw that I needed a new temp sensor and possibly a thermostat, went on the safe side and replaced the entire thermostat housing, and 2 of the hoses. Cracked the water pipe while changing the thermostat so had to replace that, too. Finally it’s all back together and now we have a small drip leak from the auxiliary coolant pump, when parked and running it’s a small drip but when driving it’s coming out MUCH faster, to the point of completely draining the reservoir in a five mile trip. Are we on the right track to replace the entire aux pump, or is there an easier fix?

Side note, while replacing the thermostat housing, I broke the little clip thing from the coolant temp sensor electrical connector while removing it from the old housing. Now it won’t clip in and stay in the coolant temp sensor on the new housing, and I don’t think it’s communicating when it’s running hot as a result. Is there a way to just buy the connector and splice it to the wiring that’s there? I just need the thing to clip down in place and communicate with the coolant temp sensor correctly.
