2012 Cooper S fast clutch wear
My 2012 Cooper S clutch wears too fast. Any info why & how to correct will be very much appreciated. I became the 2nd owner at 30,000 miles & had to replace the clutch within a year. Also replaced the stock dual-mass flywheel with a light weight then. As for my current driving: no track time or autocross, I just putt around town. I know how to drive a stick so am pretty sure Im not the cause of such a short clutch life. Recently at 63,000 miles its starting its slip routine again: accelerating in 3rd or 4th gear at city speeds. Another 30,000 mile clutch life can't be normal. Do other 12's have this problem? If so, how to fix if possible. I haven't looked in the Bently book yet but, is there a way to adjust the clutch engagement?

Supposedly this was a very common issue with 2011-2012 MINI Cooper Countrymans. The AWD combined with the extra weight, clutches only lasted less than 50K miles regularly. I haven’t heard of it being an issue on regular MINIs as they don’t have the extra weight and ALL4 system. There is an updated clutch material for R60 Countrymans but I don’t know about other MINIs.
I have a 2013 R60 Countryman ALL4 S 6MT with 170K kms (105K miles) with the original clutch. No slipping at all and I regularly push my car off the line as I’m a terrible driver. The flywheel was regularly making a Chewbacca noise when I bought the car at 70K kms but went away after about 5K kms. The flywheel components were likely sticking from the car sitting for a few months. Sorry I couldn’t be more help with respect to your specific situation....
