Swapping steering wheel R53

Hi. I have an original three spoke steering wheel with radio and cruise control buttons. Looking at buyng a modified steering wheel that does not have the buttons. Can anybody confirm that the two variants of steering wheel are physically the same, so that I can just take the wiring and buttons from my old wheel and transfer them to the new one…?
