So I recently bought an 09 R55 sport with the 6 speed automatic transmission and tons of problems. So far I've found and fixed
- Broken Water pump pullley - Melted thermostat - Leaking coolant reservoir - Leaking radiator tubes - Faulty vanos sensor - Broken diverter valve - Cracked intake - Broken club door top latch On top of that I did some basic maintenance, oil change, fresh coolant, spark plugs, tire rotation and I gave it a rattle can paint job to fix the red color. Unfortunately as soon as I got all that taken care of and went for my first joy ride at full power, the transmission lost 1st - 4th and 6th gear so I had to limp back home in 5th. So now I'm stuck, I have 2 options for used automatic transmissions I can get reasonably priced I could get but I don't know all the gaskets and seals I'd need to replace while doing so. If anyone knows what all seals I'd need I truly appreciate it. Thank you to any and all who can help, -Rupparupp |

If it were me doing it I would get the input shaft seal, both axle seals and orings, the transmission cooler orings, as well as a filter kit with 5 quarts of aisin Trans fluid. For as cheap as the vents are you might as well get one of those being the used Trans has probably been sitting and bugs like to make homes in spots like that. It's alot of work so prepare yourself to tear the whole front of the car off.

But truly if it were me I'd buy the rebuild kit with new clutch packs and I'd rebuild my transmission before I bought a used one.. they really ain't that bad.. if you can tear out your transmission and swap it, you'd be able to handle a Trans rebuild. It's not as bad as it sounds.

Okay I’ll look into the rebuild kit! I was considering attempting a rebuild of this one and purchasing and swapping the used one because I found a few used ones so cheap but If it’s cheaper and more reliable (in theory) to rebuild then I’ll look into that. Thank you for the advice I really appreciate it. I already have the entire front of the car off I just haven’t taken off the trans yet because I want to keep the engine as sealed as possible until I have the time and parts to do it all in a day or two.

Alright been a while but I have some updates. I took the transmission out as well ans the subframe and basically the entire car. After doing some pros and cons decided I would just buy a used one and put new fluid in it and hope for the best. Ended up finding a used one for $340 and picked that up this last week and got it installed. After many many hours and then finally buying a transmission jack. Hopefully I’ll have it running again in the next 2 days or so!
