BMW 318i e36 July 1994 - Bosch OBD I / DME

Reference Pelican's technical article: Pelican Technical Article: Reading BMW Fuel Injection Fault Codes

I followed the Pelican instructions as per above and pumped the gas pedal to the floor 5 times within 5 seconds.

I tried many times with: fast, slow, gentle and rough pumping/pressing but the system did NOT activate

Can anyone help with their insights as to how I can determine if the Bosch Motronic is faulty and/or what options there are available to get the OBD I to work so I can check the 'Fault Codes' ?
