Mini Cooper S Smoke in Reverse
Hello, It's been a few years since I've been on the PP forum. Used to own a 914 years back.
I have an 02 Mini Cooper S that has recently begun to smoke when put in reverse. I think I narrowed it down to only smoking when the A/C has been running and the engine is warm. Coolant levels OK, no spillage. Temperature gauge is right where it should be. It seems like the smoke is coming from underneath the engine and it happens very suddenly. It's white, no distinct odor. I was in a fender bender a few months ago and the A/C compressor was one of the things that was replaced. Is it possible it was installed wrong, possibly just water spilling onto heated exhaust pipes? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! ![]() |

Update
Driving last night, the power steering began to fail. Evidently that is what had been leaking. I'm not sure why the smoke occurred only in Reverse and when the A/C was running. Maybe the A/C was coincidence. Can anyone help with this. I've had repair after repair with this car and am leaning toward fixing it and selling it. Is this something I could do myself, maybe just a hole in the line?
thanks, Rob |
