2002 Mini Cooper Base

2002 MINI overheated while on the highway, coolant boiled over, no indication on panel other then ac started blowing hot. When I stepped out cooling fan was not running and did not come back on till the engine cooled. Once it got down to reasonable temp, restarted, fan kicked in and I went on my merry way back to normal. Fan relay? Thermostat? Temp sensor?
