Engine fumes in cab while at stoplight.
I have a 2008 Mini Cooper S and am experiencing engine fumes or crankcase fumes inside the cab while at stop lights. Doesn't seem so bad while moving down the road.
Any ideas what the problem may be? Thanks |

Can you maybe describe a bit more as to what you are smelling? What does it smell like, i.e. exhaust, fuel, oil, coolant, etc. Is your air conditioner/heat on when you smell it? Check your cabin air filter to see if it's dirty. I've seen individuals report an issue like this and changed out their normal filter for a charcoal one, which solved the problem.

Engine fumes in cab
Smells like engine oil vapors, not exhaust or fuel.
Only does it when heater or AC is turned on. No odor when these systems are turned off. |

Since it smells like oil I'd suggest checking for a possible oil leak. They can start as a seep and spread across engine components before ever accumulating on the ground. Look closely as it might not have acquired into a drip yet. I'd suggest checking out our engine oil leak diagnosis thread to help you look over common oil leak areas to help you possibly pinpoint your issue: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/MINI_R56/83-ENGINE-Oil_Leak_Diagnosis/83-ENGINE-Oil_Leak_Diagnosis.htm. Let me know what you find.
