Flywheel locking pin and Timing Chain removal

I'm trying to get my flywheel locked on my 2007 mini 6spd (N12/R56). My locking pin does not fit and trying to use a 1/4in socket extension and inserting it into the locking hole. I'm rotating the crankshaft/flywheel but I'm not able to find the hole that will cause the flywheel to lock. What am I missing to get my flywheel locked so I can remove those 3 bolts holding the crank pully?

Hello, I had same problem! I had to sand my locking pin to clean it up and then it fit.
Do you have the tool to hold the crank pulley?

Yes, I have the tool. The only problem with it is the handle has broken off. I will have it welded back on but will try sanding it down to fit. How far in should the pin go?
Thanks!

Mine went in to the hole about 3/4 of the way. One thing I found was I used a light and a minor to get the hole line up. The took a screw driver and place it in the hole and marked the depth. then mark the tool so it would know I was pretty close to having tool fully engage. The dimple on the fly wheel looks to be dished, so don't rely on the tool to hold the engine while removing the pulley.

I was finally able to get the pin inserted into the locking location. The pin was over sized, so a barrel sanding wheel and my dremel and moving it around and around a few times brought it down to size.
