My 2007 mini s runs strong and idles smoothly. No obvious codes. BUT- it is going through a quart every 150 miles. There are no evident oil leaks. I have not yet done a compression check. Could this be the turbo oil seal? If so, how do I diagnose. Thanks - your write-ups are world class!

Remove the turbo ducts and inspect the hoses for excessive oil. Some oil residue is normal, look for puddles.

Check your PCV. They're known to cause issues as engine oil consumption increases significantly if the crankcase ventilation system is defective. Read our oil consumption article here: MINI Cooper R56 Oil Consumption Diagnosis (2007-2011) | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article. To check the PCV, disconnect the PCV hose on the valve cover and see if its heavily coated with oil. Definitely perform a compression and leak down test.
