Please send me a photo of the harness you're wanting to replace and I'll see what I can come up with

the mini part number is 1242 7 530 357. the cable is about 44" long. one end has a black connector and that plugs into the power steering pump. The PS pump end is no problem the other end has a white connector and i believe that plugs into the underside on of the under hood fuse box, at least that seems to be where the cable runs in the engine bay. this is the end i need help with. how do i gain access to the underside of the fuse box or where ever it connects, to unplug the old cable and plug in the new one. Also at this end is a grounding wire that will need to be connected to a ground screw. Any help you can be would be much appreciated.

Figure #5 in the tech article shows you the placement of where the wire connects to the pump (green arrow).

I did find this information - not sure if it's specifically for this wire so you will need to get under there and inspect the area. See if it may help you with the install.

If the PS cable harness or connector is burnt or damaged it can be easily removed from a scrap MINI as it is only about 2 feet long with just 2 wires in it, only attached with cable ties (easily cut to get the loom out) and the other end, 1 wire is plugged into the bottom of the engine bay fuse box (the box is secured by 2 x 8mm headed bolts, remove them and the box lifts enough to unplug the connector) the other wire is bolted to a earth point on the chassis rail under the fuse box...

Perfect OK, I see your question loud and clear...So I just spent a bit of time looking at our 03 CooperS and I cannot tell for sure but it looks like the wire goes up to a plastic junction which is mounted directly on top of the manual transmission, and from there it is not clear to me where it goes... I inspected the fuse panel in the engine compartment and I am not 100% sure that it terminates and plugs in to the panel itself. This one you may need to spend a day and figure it out for all of us who are wanting to know!

I will poke around a bit more and let you know if I see anything helpful.

I did not take pictures but i did figure this out. First off remove the air intake box completely. I have an after market K&N that has been on for a while so i do not recall exactly how the stock box comes off but there are just a few screws holding it on. also remove the air intake ducting to allow the box to come out. Pull the box towards the front of the car as you pull it up out of the car. It sits on two anti-vibration rubber posts which is why it needs to be brought toward the front of the car first. With this removed you can clearly see the PS power cable routing over the gear box to the underside of the fuse box. You will also need to disconnect the two ECU cables to gain a little room. you will now need to lift the fuse box a little to get access to the PS power connector (white end in the picture above). there are a fore and aft screws remove them. then you will need to take the negative power cable off the fuse box too, i think it is a 10mm or 12mm bolt. Once these three are done the fuse box is movable and you can gain access to the connector on the underside. Unplug the PS power connector and then unscrew the PS ground cable. Plug in the new cable positive and screw on the ground post. I rerouted the new cable beside the old cable. then i removed the old cable after clipping a couple of zip ties. Replace the zip ties round the new cable and put all the bits back on. The air box reinstall is a bit tricky as the anti vibration posts mate with a couple of plastic clips on the underside of the box. you'll see what i mean. its not hard just a bit fiddly. I hope this all helps and my instructions are clear. feel free to ask questions if you need more help.
