HELP!
The boot release on my 2001 cooper is not working, I've checked the switch etc and all seems ok so next thing is check / change the actuator / solenoid. Question is, How do I open the boot to get at the solenoid??? I cant remove the parcel shelf, I cant fold down the rear seats???? __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: MINI Cooper R56 Tailgate Handle Replacement (2007-2011) | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article |
I have not yet run in to that predicament, I will post to the forums and see if another member can offer guidance.

I'd suggest to remove the interior panels on the boot and check to see if there is water intrusion at the switch. First, check the release cable to make sure that isn't your issue. The emergency release cable is under the rear seat. You should see it when you lift the back seat up and then pull the ring on the passenger side. If it works, it returns properly and there is a reasonable amount of slack in the cable it probably isn't your issue.
edit: sorry I see you have a 1st gen. So try the release cable method and check for moisture build up in the trunk lid switch. You may need to gain access to the connector and give it a good cleaning. If that solves it you may want to change the gasket that seals the handle unit to the body. |
