The rear hatch opens when you start the car and now it unlatches when the car isn't even started. Does this mean that the latch is bad or is there an electrical problem?

Could be either. I would monitor the latch release signal. if it is not being commanded to open and it does, the latch is the issue. If it is being commanded open, the wiring or control circuit is faulty.
