Hi, I am a newbie. Thanks for posting this article. I have a 2009 Clubman S turbo. After the limp mode came on I opened the engine cover to see the top chain guide was broken of course. It is beyond the 7 year period so out of the extended "lawsuit" coverage.
I have since then cleaned up the oil pan, changed the gasket, cleaned up all the bits and pieces of the guide that I could find in the engine and the oil pump.
I haven't taken out or touched the timing chain though want to go small steps at a time.
In the process I did turn the crankshaft sprocket and it rotates I think how it should.
However, after resealing the engine the car just cranks and wont start.
Before I cleaned up the chain guide pieces the only trouble in starting was that it would take a few seconds to start up but it would always start.
I have a new battery as well.
Am I as dumb as not putting the Camshaft in the position you have described in fig 6 - "When rotating the engine, monitor the camshafts. The IN green arrows and EX red arrows on the camshafts will point up"?
Would that be the reason for the car cranking and not starting?
