Is it possible to overfill the oil in R56 N12b16?

So, out of curiosity, I pulled the dipstick after warmed up and running. The dipstick is dry!!! I bought the new cravenspeed dipsticks for both of my coopers and there is no mistaking with these. So, if the crankcase/pan is overfilled, how can the oil spash and foam from the crank hitting it if all of the oil gets pumped out of the pan while the engine is running? Is there a danger from having a dry sump while driving? I've never see this before. In my past, always V8's and even with other foreign sports cars, it makes perfect sense as the oil stays at a level and is readable on the dip stick, but not with these cars???
