Oran Park - Sun 25th March

Any of you guys in Sydney going to the PCNSW round 1 on Sunday at Oran Park?

After having a ball at Wakefield a couple of weeks ago I'm kinda hooked - down the $lippery $lope I go.

Planning to - just getting the tow hooks sorted out, not that I plan on using them.

Mine is a black widebody with Cup2 wheels. All else is stock except the exhaust.

i will be going out to OPS on sunday, these track days get addictive. did you guys get up to the club meeting where PR was talking about the season. check your fire extinguisher mount to make sure there is no plastic clips on it, it seems you wont be allowed on the track with these types of clips.

yeah I was going to take my car to PR before sunday to get the fire extinguisher installed, however, my car is still at my mechanics with it's gearbox out! lol, hopefully it will be ready by sunday, he is putting in the 1kg fire extinguisher for me and the tow hooks.

Yeah my car has 3 piece simmons with dunlop D01J semi slicks. I put some new pads (EBC) front and rear on and machined and cleaned my rotors for sunday.

My fire extinguisher came from PR with their SS bracket so I am Ok on that. Standard front hook is OK (the one on the A arm cover) but still sorting out one for the rear - will probably go with the webbing strap approach for the day.

Last run at Wakefield a couple of weeks ago left me with a very spongy brake pedal - fixed after bleeding them but it did show up the need for something better.

Longer term plan for me is to get some spare rims with track tyres for these events so I don't ruin my street tyres. Keeping my eye out on ebay for some Simmons or similar.

yeah looking forward to it, I decided to go the option an buy a second set of rims, my car is a daily driver, i simply can't afford to destroy my steert tyres with a track day.

Tim..what size rims do you need 15"?

I was about to buy a set of 15x7 and 15x8 minlites from a forum member in melb...however I had already ordered my simmons and it was too late to cancel the order minilites would be a great second set of wheels on a 911.

Don't know what size yet - currently the car has 17" Cup2's but I've been told that for track days I'm better going smaller to improve the gearing. I may have stumbled across some older BBS deep offset rims this week - will know more tomorrow.

Being a widebody conversion (standard running gear) means that I run big spacers. The currect rims are 7.5" (f) and 9" (r) (I think - never measured them!) with 1" spacers on front and 2" on back. Tyres are 235 front and 255 rear.

At least with the spacers my disc rotors are out in the airflow!!

Going towards an extreme approach, 9" and 11" rims would mean I can do away with the spacers for trackdays and would fit in with the 3.0RS look I'm moving towards.

good stuff, BBS deep dish would look good, look forward to seeing your car on sunday, my no. plate is the same as my username, look out for me.

yeah my car came originally with 16" Fuchs but I downgraded to 15"'s, they work better with the suspension setup and are better on the track (apparently). Like I said my car hasn't been tracked at all before so will be ineteresting to see how it goes.

I'd be interested in going but haven't applied yet. I am a PCNSW member. Is it too late?
What class would I run in?
Don't semi slicks push you up a class or something?
cheers guys, might see you there.
Phil

its not too late phil. there is the entry form on the club website, do you have a cams license? if not you need to go to the cams website and print off a license for L2S, thats level 2 speed. other then that you just need a helmet, fire extinguisher, bonnet tie down, some numbers(available on the day). Rspec tires oar free so you dont move up a class, slicks push you into open. you should be in either C or D class.

Thanks Sean.
Think I can take care of the fire extinguisher, tow hook and bonnet tie down and bludge a helmet for the day.
I'm having trouble finding the Competition Rules on the PCNSW website in an attempt to understand the car classifications. Any ideas where I might find these rules so I know what I might be competing against?
cheers,
Phil

nbj, can you let me know who is selling the minilites - I'd be interested in them if they're still available.

Phil, you'd probably be in Class C - with other 3.2's and some 944's. It doesn't really matter who you're competing against as it's only against the clock. For more info, email David - captain@pcnsw.com.au

My son is coming for the run on Sunday and is bringing his digital camera. Once he knows what cars to look out for he is sure to get shots for us.

Great day, good to meet some other mebers of this forum! Nice car Tim! Did your son get some good shots?

I was pleased with my Bog Stock 911SC doing a 55.3
I think my engine has about 17-20 less HP then it had new (done 300,000kms without a rebuild)

When I drove Oran Park south in my Dad's 911RS, I was doing a 51.0 sec lap, so being about 4 seconds off the pace of the RS makes me feel pretty happy with my SC.

The only class D cars that were quicker then me was a heavily modified 944S2 (stripped out) which apparently shouldn't even be in class D and a 3.2 Ltr boxter. I am happy to be the fastsest class D 911 hehehe

Can't wait for Wakefield!
