Underway again - at last
Tuesday, 15 May (thought I'd actually record the date!).
OK, it looks like the Tangerine machine is back underway after a 'substantial' (understatement) rest period. My mech has started stripping the suspension so the new stuff should be going in soon. Some reminder pics for those who forgot what it looks like (me included.....). The current plan is to get the new suspension in: big T-bars, adj. sway bars, elephant racing bushes, h-d shocks (front struts to be revalved to match the new rears), trailing arm monoballs plus the refreshed brakes in: refurbished S-alloy calipers, stainless lines, pads, etc. Then.....get the fuel tank back in, finish the interior, connect it all up and hope to h#ll it all starts up. The car has been 'resting' for almost three years (even then is was only run for a couple of hours before being parked up at the workshop, before which is sat for two years......yes, I've been taking a beating from some of you for years over this). Back to the pics - Three years ago: Two years ago (wheel change - and just rolled it out of the workshop for the pics, then back in to 'sleep'): Slumber pose (yes, it's been sitting like this for quite a while): and, some action (not much, but hey, anthying is good at this stage: I'll clean up this wheel wells before it all goes back together too. Another sneak peak of the interior - like everything, half finished: I'll re-assemble it and complete the carpet install once the cage bolt in plates are welded in place. Anyone know a good source for aluminium checkerplate footplates? More pics as it progresses. Hopefully back on the road in the next month, then pipe dreams of 2.3 or 2.5 twin-plug goodness will start to cloud my thoughts... Cheers, Ash

D'oh! I was hoping this thread would be about the car actually moving under its own power again at last!
Either way, it's a step in the right direction. Bet you're itching to get it moving again. Good luck with it all Ash.

That is a very nice car, I'm hunting a 911E right now as a project car to restore to showroom original condition.

I dont know about checker plate but there was a guy in Germany that was selling the drilled aluminium drivers & navigators foot boards. gpm-int is his seller id. He has nothing for sale at the moment but keep your eyes out. Edit - Rennline has them... - http://rennline.com/product.php/sid/5/aid/46/auto/Porsche/prodid/30 Cheers Cam Oh by the way what are the wheel widths in the second photo?

Ash and Cam, you may need to be careful with those alloy pedal boards from Rennline.
I'm not sure but the LHD / RHD issue might bite you here.......... cheers, Phil

Hey Cam,
They're 16x6 up front (205/55) and 16x7 out back (225/50). Pretty close the the guards but should work well once the suspension is dialled in. I've got a set of deep 6s for track stuff later on (courtesy of the ex-Viper targa (ex Obrut mobile) we sold earlier this year). Phil - good catch. I was thinking the same thing last night while admiring the rennline stuff - I especially like the black versions (although I wonder how they would look after some abuse). Cheers, Ash

Update from yesterday and today:
spring plates and torsion bars in. Boy those wheel wells look shocking - the pics make them even worse! Looks like the scraper and spraycan will have to make an appearance... Front suspension partially stripped. Part to be reused will be painted before going back on. Struts to go to Bilstein for revalving to match the new sport rears (plus they haven't been touched in 15 years so I'd say they're pretty much stuffed without some attention. Engine bay stripped and old glue (from sound proofing pad) scraped off. First coat of rust proof undercoat added across any exposed sections. Final coat in the next few days across the entire bay area. There seems to be some debate over whether the engine bay of a '70 should be body colour or black - mine looks to have been bosy colour, but then a single coat of back spray applied over it at the factory (the engine bay was untouched until I 'attacked' it yesterday). But I've also seen body colour on other '70s too. I suspect I'll go with black. ![]() Random up in the air shot: With luck the suspension will be painted and mostly (whatever that means!) back in by the end of next week. Cheers, Ash

John, nice find! I do like the black. But looks like no passenger side?

I think I have seen those ones on Ebay a number of times. I have never seen the passenger ones anywhere so far. I think most people dont car about passengers. But if you are tracking the car and need a co pilot, it might be worth having somewhere for them to put their feet.

Not much action today. Front strut inserts sent away for 'renovation' (they said it might be two weeks as they're busy). I'll paint the strut towers if I can find 'Bilstein Green' close to the original colour.
Picked up new brake rotors (F&R) - the old brakes made a bit of a mess of the last set. Any of you guys running open steel lug nuts? I've got 52mm studs at the moment which should put open lugs level with the top of the studs (no spacers). Better to have a few threads showing? I think the next size up is 65mm or 72mm studs. I can't run spacers with the 16x7s, but might need to with the 15x6s (anyone run spacers for 15x6s?). Cheers, Ash
