Oran Park GP sprints (Aug 4)

Who's going to the supersprint at Oran Park GP in Aug?

my car (the SC) is at Europesport at the moment, I finally got around to installing a strut tower brace, a nice sparco race seat, a harness bar and a 5 point harness that came out of a GT3

I also removed a plate up the front of the car which protects the A/C. I damaged this on a ripple strip at Wakefield, thankfully nothing else damaged

Looking forward to not falling out of my seat and using my arms and elbows to hold on as I corner Hopefully it will mean slightly quicker times!

I can't wait to get the car back and see how it handles with the rear harness bar and the front strut brace!

I'll be there and with luck the car will be a bit lighter.

FG IROC front and Rear bumper, FG hood all sitting ready to go in along with lighter battery.

Looking for low to mid cost track rims with r-spec tyres still.

Aim is to have the suspension sorted by Eastern Creek - still running standard SC all round.

nice one Tim, The FB bumpers and bonnet must lose a huge amount of weight!

There were minilites for sale on this forum a few months back for $1,000 (15x7 and 15x8) from memory, but i think they are also pretty heavy if they are genuine minilites.

I bought my simmons for around $1,000. They are a good alternative on the track, don't look as nice as the fuschs, but great for the track, don't know how light they are though.

I'd recommend the Oz Racing wheels, but they do cost and arm and a leg, they were outa my price range, would have been nice though.

what are you doing with your suspension?

Simmons is what I'm thinking - looking about for 7" and 9" or perhaps 9" and 11" if I can. If they come with tyres even better.

I was hoping to get the Simmons from Ryan (Obrut) when he was selling but I was too slow and his BBS are too good for my needs.

As for weight I'm thinking all up I should be able to gain about 30-35kg plus what I lose myself - Diet and exercise have seen 5kg gone already and aiming for another 10kg - cheaper than FG panels!!

Go you good thing Timbo!

I'll miss playing with you guys at Oran Park as I mentioned I'll be away for a while. I will be at Eastern Creek though.

Nathan you will definitley pick up time with the seat alone and interested to hear what you've got to say about the strut brace.

Tim you're really getting things under way. I look forward to a few laps as passenger in the morning sessions at Eastern Creek with whomever will have me. I'll be happy to reciprocate.

Ryan, what are the BBS's exactly? I may be interested.

cheers, Phil

OK - got me some 16x8" and 9" Simmons with slicks fitted plus 6 half worn RSpec's, so I've got the wheels sorted out now. Putting the RSpec's on for now and saving the slicks for non club track days.

Also picked up some Boxter Front calipers and Carrera rotors to go on - thats next week.

The car is going to look like a dogs breakfast since it won't be painted by the 4th but at least the work will be done. Should change the colour on the entry form from Black to Tortoise Shell.

Its a slippery slope.

Also discovered that the old Recaro's I have weigh 20kg more than the standard SC seats! So left one has been swapped out back to standard and I'm now on the lookout for a lightweight drivers seat.

I'll be interested to know what the car weights when all this is finished..

Tim

How's the car going tim?

I will most likely need a new gear slector, thought it was just bushings, but seems to be more then that. Currently has lots of movement, sometimes you get 3rd, sometimes you get 5th, then sometimes 5th is outa reach... have to be careful not to accidently select 1st too

Solution is putting in a short shift, won't be able to do that though by OranPark, so i'll be just taking my time with the shifts this weekend

My dad's doing a few last min preps to his RS too. So we'll both be out there! He has a class C car however so we won't be racing each other. hehe

Fibreglass panels done, brakes done, maybe even the new seat.

However I'm now dealing with the ride height - it was good but with so much weight taken out the car sits an inch higher at the front and half and inch at the back!!

See you (and your Dad) Saturday.

Tim

I hope to be able to turn up early afternoon on my way back from the snow.
its not to much of a diversion off the M7 to the creek, just have another mate
with me who may have commitments, but going to see P cars is a good
reason to tell lies to get out if commitments.

I hope this rain goes away.

Half worn RSpec's in the wet might be a handfull!

Forecast says fine for the weekend - so I've got everything crossed!

yeah they said rain is clearing tonight, fine weekend.

fingers crossed

My semi slicks were fine in the wet at Oran Park last time. It rained for the last session, I started going around the outside of cars that were much quicker then I was in the dry, but seemed to lack grip or something in the wet on their road tyres. Mind you, my semi slicks are far more worn now...

Hmmmm....... GRIP!!! You trying to save on tyre wear?

I had a great day - learning to warm up tyres properly and leaning to trust them!

Yeh - the car needs a paint - the hood used to be red and the kids have threatened to make up little Lego logos and stick them all over the car if it's not painted soon!
I looked at some of the photo's from the guys at the track - you and I both have some serious body roll!

See you next time - Eastern Creek is only a month and a bit away!

I should probably stop changing things on the car and just learn to drive it!

Tim

yeah, how's this for body roll....

Yeah I noticed our SC's have more body roll then most other cars. Even with my Bilstein and Koni shocks on a hard setting!

Still happy with the car though, pleased PR technology were able to fix my gearbox woes in between sessions!!! Amazing job by the PR Tech guys

I want to drive my old man's car next time he was out for a sunday drive, was not pushing it at all, just has so much more power and better handling then my car. Never got any of his wheels off the ground

Can't wait for Eastern Creek!
