Keeping her cool in Brissy

Hi All,
I took the car out a couple of weeks ago and got the temp upto 250F - my car doesnt have the oil cooler or trombone cooler in the front arches. Before I look to order the oil cooler kit from Pelican parts is there any other way of sourcing this kit from over here? Would a Porsche breakers have one if such a place exists in Oz?
I was thinkning about asking T&D to fit it for me....
Cheers
Steve

you can see if you can buy a second hand carrera set up - cooler lines thermostat etc from any of the local wreckers. more statutory write off due to changes in law.

What engine is in your car? What sort of driving were you doing at the time?

However your issue may not be instantly fixed by the addition of the front mount cooler alone.

My 2.2T in summer coming up the Clyde Mountain hasn't gone over 205-210. Which is the upper suggested oil temp.

It was general driving on a country road, not much stopping and starting. The engine is a 2.7 from 1974, the car is a 68. My oil pressure needle stays at the top mark constantly - not sure if that's anything to do with the problem? Its probably best if I take it to a garage.

Having spoken to T&D they recommended the 11 blade fan first of all. T&D quoted me approx $600 for a new one fitted but they said it's a 3 week wait for the part. I've seen a few advertised on ebay USA for around $250 second hand - my only concern is that they may not fit.... if it doesnt fit can they be made to fit? Does anyone know where I could source one over here?

Cheers

IIRC the 11-blade fan is a straight swap in to a mid-year 2.7. Certainly it's rare to see an original 5-blader nowadays, most have had the conversion done long ago.

F3nr15 - what do you mean conversion done long ago? I think the 5 blade is the original, it's me that wants to convert it to a 11 blade. Just tried to get the nut off the pulley.... Struggling to say the least!

Just saying that most 2.7 engines have had their original 5-blade fans swapped out for an 11-blade one by now.

The diameter of the replacement 11-blade fan needs to be correct, and also the pulley, worth doing a search on the tech forum.

Will do. Thanks. The guy who owned it before me had it for 8 years in Victoria, you'd of thought he would of done the conversion long ago! I'm bidding on a carrera oil cooler aswell, car should be pretty chilled after these 2 mods..... Hopefully.

Hey Steve,
T&D sent me some filters out and they came in Pelican Parts boxs and l had a quick look and if it's the right one l found the 11 blade fan is listed at $434 from our host. So at $600 fitted not a bad price and l'd say that's why there is a 3 wk wait. And at least you can ask a few questions on this forum to make sure you source the right one and do it yourself if that's the way you want to go.Myself living out bush l have no choice, but it's all good fun.

Just for info - There's a guy selling them for $150 + $60 postage from US (if anyone else is needing to do the upgrade)... I ended up sourcing one from over here for $220, slightly more but Ive commited now. Tried to get the nut off the pulley last night - I think I need the special tool as it's really tight, where could I get this from - I don't want to order from pelican as the postage will be more than the tool!

Fishcop is the man, going on his rebuild there is not much John can't do or won't attempt, being a Brisso boy he might have a puller to lend you.

I've probably let Steve down... he has called.

I've got some big (unexpected) stuff work wise on and have been neglecting family etc... so I've been a bit hard to get and hard up on time.

I hope to be a bit more available next month!

Steve, I do have a copy of the 101 Project book I can lend you too.

Fishcop - no worries! I know your extermely busy hence why I havent been back in touch.
Craig - Thanks for that but I got it off in the end! I know its a small mod that only registers a poxy 3 on the difficutly scale but it felt good to strip it down by myself, here's hoping it goes back together OK....
I noticed oil leaks behind the shroud that I've posted a pic of in the technical section, I'm hoping these oil leaks can be fixed without dropping the engine?....
I've purchased the carrera oil cooler from the states 2nd hand so Ill probably take that to T&D for them to fit as I don't currently have a cooler up front meaning ill need the oil lines fitted etc.... Im hoping with the cooler and the 11 blade fan things should start to cool down..
