911SC Vin plate location? Urgent help please!
I'm currently at the mechanics trying to get a roadworthy and he needs to see the vin/compliance plate, it's not the one on the drivers side wall of the front trunk near the headlight, he says that's just an ID plate, and I can't find a straight answer searching for it! Found the stamp in the trunk but he needs the plate too. Can anyone tell me where there Australian one is? Thanks!!

If the plate has the WPOZZZ******* number on it thats the VIN plate isnt it????
I thought it was right hand side in front boot (trunk) the WPO number is the VIN number after all..... cheers John |

Hi Grant
Please don't take this the wrong way, but your car is far from original in nearly every respect If you do not have a WPOZZZ.... number then you've likely got an early chassis. That stamped number is located on the right side just above the fuel tank. It will start with 11 or 911.

Compliance plate is normally next to the stamped VIN in the trunk.
Ring Porsche Melbourne with the VIN and they'll tell you more about it (ie. if it is Australian delivered, etc)

yea i know it's a bit of a frankenstein. it does have a WPOZZZ... vin though, it's the same on the plate on the wall in the trunk (which i thought was the vin plate until the mechanic told me otherwise) and on the number stamped just above the fuel tank. but no plate next to the stamped number.
i've read people talking about the vin plate on the windscreen frame, i don't even know exactly where they mean but i had a good look around aside from under the trim and behind the dash, and found nothing... |

Australian delivered cars don't have the windscreen number... (presuming it is an AU or ROW delivery)
Does you mechanic know Porsches, or is he just doing the roadworthy? The WPOZZZ is the vehicle identification number (VIN).

Hi Grant,
The only time you will see a plate on the windscreen pillar/ frame is when it is USA spec. if your car is ROW then the plate pop riveted into the drivers side front trunk is the only one that i have seen in over 12 early 911s ranging from late 60s to late 80s models. Michael |

nah he didnt seem to know porsches, but as much as i tried telling him that i didnt think there was any other plates, he said there needs to be one with the build date printed on it, or else it means it's an import (which is also entirely likely) anyway he went on holidays the next day so im just gonna take it to someone less fussy.
