There are things I have sold that I will never get back. Some of them I wish I still had. In the end I had the pleasure of owning them and using them, and I know what I liked about the experience.
I believe you can do anything you put your mind to. You will weigh all the options and make a choice using the information at hand and your gut. Trust your gut, decide freely and never look back. Looking back is what trips me up. |
Oh, yeah. I still have fun cars. But I can have fun with a supercharged Miata. I tend to keep the cars I use.

I'm Porsche-less right now, but do have a `49 Plymouth with 39K original miles, an '86 Prelude 2.0si, an '85 Corolla GTS and a '77 280Z - all with manual gearboxes. Plenty of fun and smiles among them.

I only buy fun cars, there's lots of cool cars that are reliable, no need to settle
|
Yep, definitely running a fun-car deficit currently. Sold my 87Carrera a few months ago. Had become garage-art and was only being driven rarely just to keep the juices flowing. Don’t really miss it as the motorcycles have more than filled the gap. May pick up a cheap Miata or such at some point. No real interest in tying $40k+ in a car...but, never say never. For now, don’t miss it.

I have my cab but honestly I'm starting to wonder why. My son is getting older and doesn't enjoy car shows like he once did and I don't drive the car as much as I did a few years ago.

No regrets every time I bought a house I sold the hobby cars and spent my car money at Home Depot for a few years.
During my car break I would say I was sponsoring the Home Depot stock car team. In 1982 Sold a nice 240z for my VA loan on the first house. 1994 Sold a nice 1933 street rod for the next house. Big house projects take time and money leaving little left for the car hobby. Just got a nice virtual reality driving simulator, it might help as a replacement for the race cars. |
I'll likely never have another fun car. For me, my fun car phase was really me missing riding a motorcycle. Once I started riding again, the desire to own a sports car pretty much disappeared.
|
1st fun car was a 1959 Austin Healey 100-6 I bought in 1971.....Only been without about 5 years from maybe 1974-1979.....Biggest mistake ever was selling 19962 XKE Roadster for $8.500.
Current: 1960 190-SL, 1973.5 Targa with 3.2, and 1969 911 T coupe project. Just got the doors back from the painter, rest of the car to follow. Plenty of choices with 10 motorcycles also...... |
Still have the S8 as a third car, sometimes think about selling it too. RX7 and 911 are gone, I miss them but I don't. I simply don't have the time for the inevitable wrenching required for a fun car, and don't enjoy it like I used to. If I sell the S8 I'll use the money to buy something newer and reliable like a Miata.

The following pictures are the day we moved here. I then sold the SC to give us some financial bump and cushion. It is what you do. Many fun cars have followed. You do what you have to do. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1529863216.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1529863216.jpg Here is really the only one I miss, a picture taken in 2007 from a spot not far from the above pictures. Hugh parked his Biga$$ RV in the exact same spot. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1529863379.jpg Do what yo have to do, make sure your wife is onboard:D |
Nothing wrong with making sacrifices...we've all BTDT. But if possible - don't make a mistake and sell something that will triple in value over the next 5 years - because that's worth more to you if you keep it!
I have a lot of toys right now and was looking at a 6th motorcycle in CL yesterday but fortunately the ad was deleted today - so I no longer have that temptation. For that particular bike anyway.... |
After the divorce, when I needed to buy the house I was renting all of the cars were sold including my 964T. While I missed the bubble on P-cars I did quite well on the house.
I went a few years without a fun car and then picked up the 996TT and a couple years later the ‘78 Westy. I never wrench on the 996, it has been reliable and I drive it to work and the airport often when I travel. The Westy needs to be tinkered with every once in a while, but nothing major so far. |

Speaking of Toyota, snagged a 2004 RAV4 to replace my horribly rusted 03 Taurus (which replaced my perfectly fine, yet annoying, 2003 Passat wagon - yep, my kid). Dropped $500 in front end parts on the RAV and the thing is almost like a new car with 190k. 4 cyl, 2wd which I find as the bonus. Less can be more. |
My 914 a/x car is in a storage unit until I can build my workshop/garage. But I'm almost ready to have another try at the permit process. :(
|
I have too many "fun" cars. Out of 6 road vehicles I can get in and drive 4.
|
My 964 is parked up at my parents house, my 930 in storage
My old Toyota 4runner just got hit in the door by a big lump of stone that fell off my partly demolished house, wasn't happy but it now wears a little more patina with pride |

It is one of my favourite things I own but the truck is worth less than the chunk of house that hit it , all the stone was undamaged so no loss adjuster required:D |
