Short answer, yes. I’ve met every type of person imaginable in this life and befriended many.
|
For me? Just you lot!

I ate dinner with Denis once so yes. Had to keep him from pimp slapping the waitress.

Not really but some of the guys I did hang with eventually ended up with records.

My friends and I ran from a bad dude once, we were kids playing 'knock and run'
Knocked on the wrong house on night and a big dude jumped out of his first floor bathroom window shouting he would kills us all We ran for our lives, good job too as we found out the next day he was serving member of the SAS |
No. Too busy working to feed myself and my family to ever have time for any of that crap.
|
I had a much better time hanging out with bad women.
|
Yeah, Col. Bob Howard, SGM Jon Robert Cavaiani, SGM Jakavenko...off the top. Lots more bad dudes but that is a start.

Depends on what you mean by "bad dude." I was bartender at one of the local bars and had to close on Thursdays. The money bag came with a pistol, which we carried on the way to the bank "nighttime suppository." (according to my boss). One more that one night I had to eyeball some guy who thought the money bag was tempting, but they always backed down. It never seemed like a big deal to me, but my wife made me quit the job. She pointed out that I had a family to support and I should do something more tame.
Right out of high school I got a summer job at the local foundry, working 4PM to midnight. I got in with a some co-workers who would haul ass to the local bar that stayed open 'til 2 AM and we would drink beer and - well, there were women of a certain reputation there (;)) so you know where that went. We never stole anything or committed any crimes, but those girls sure got a workout. I started college in the fall and things got serious, meaning these party guys were bad dudes as far as my future was concerned. |
Re: the guy I talked about in post #27. Back in the day one of the frequent night time activities was "draggin the main." We were doing that one night, & there were three guys sitting on the fender of a car giving everybody the finger & bad looks. Before we passed them by again after a couple of passes, he pulled a big 7-UP bottle from under the seat of the car and said, "When I tell you to stop, stop and watch this." As we got near the three guys with the fingers and evil eyes, he said to stop. When we did, he jumped out, ran over and smashed the bottom off the 7-UP bottle on the curb and screamed, "Get the FXXX out of here!" The three bad guys eyes got as big as silver dollars and they ran away down the sidewalk.

Yes. My Dad decided to emigrate from the UK to NZ in 1972. I was 2 years old. He bought a house very close to a great school (good move), but it was not a great street. The local kids basically wanted to fight me (hard) from day one.
I learnt three things very fast: 1) fighting is a waste of time because it hurts. 2) Humour is a great deflector, enabling one to get on with what you actually want to do, with none the wiser. 3) You still had to learn how to punch, unfortunately. |
I had an alcoholic violent (nutter) father, then the setup became a solo mom.
So I decided to beat the odds and not end up in jail. Plus my DNA from my mothers side gave me a warm and caring heart, that generally means the best for others. After a childhood of fists being rained down on me I grew up to be pretty good at looking after myself and friends, so I've stood up to any bad dudes who came my way and gave 75% of them a hiding. So generally speaking, no. No bad dudes in my circle of friends. |
Bill, no man should endure his father's fists on him. You have done very well.
|
Kind words.
Yes NZ back in the day really was the wild west. |
Fred, my life sounds like a copy of yours, even down to the friend a 1971 455 TransAm. We raced everywhere, smoked alot of pot, and generally disobeyed many laws. when I got married (celebrating 30 years last week), I also lost contact with most of these guys, although I think most of them have multiple divorces, and bancruptcies....no murders or suicides yet.

Pretty sure some of my former friends from high school have records and/or are dead by this point. I just kind of drifted away when they started to get into serious trouble. I was always on board for the "light" trouble--the kind that would probably get you community service the first time you were caught (I was never caught). It was always my plan to go to college and to get the kind of job that would be impossible with a record, so my rough plan was to knock it off either when I got caught or got to college--whichever happened first.

My father use to work with Carlos Marcella's son. Not in the mafia! He use to go to Carlos's house often. Then when I was about 7 I went to 'Uncle Carlo's house". Remember him well. Remember lots of red velvet and dark wood and he has that Vitalis smell about him. Was very nice to me but not lon after that Dad stopped working for Louis.

I grew up with this guy he is currently sitting on death row in Florida
