Best kept builders secret, can't believe I've only just been told this from my builder and another builder
'When the roof is on, you're only about half way finished' :( Still working every day on this, most evenings too, still making steady progress, still ache when I wake up but still thoroughly enjoying myself, well most of the time I am Since the last update I've moved some timber using my face, that smarted a bit, my face buffed out in a week so no permanent damage done :D Also fell off the 3rd floor in the pitch darkness, using my ninja, spidey skillz I grabbed a floor joist on my way down before delicately nailing a feet first, stand up dismount on the 2nd floor  Don't think I'm ready for retirement just yet as it all seems a bit of a dangerous pastime to me ;) |
Captain, i got to confess i am a lot more circumspect at height than I was 30 years ago.
I try to plan my platforms, handhold and movements so I don't find myself forced to grab madly for my 'last chance '. Glad you landed on your feet. Sounds like the other end was compromised. :D Best Les |
Glad you’re ok, Captain. Confess I enjoy how you share your stories of peril.
|
The Captain never ceases to amaze me.
Nice job! |
Thanks gents
This thread is a real time build blog, covering the good, bad and ugly as it happens 100% not intended to be one of those professional efforts with lots of product placement shots and all the 'bloopers' and 'mistakes' edited out, where the fun be in that |
Happy you hung on and well done on the build Captain!

As this is a slow reveal build I thought it was time to make a small confession....
Since the beginning of this project my intention has never been to build a conventional double garage, that would be just too easy but to build a 4 car garage ;) Left hand side of the garage I plan to have parking for one car along with the bargain hydraulic lift table I bought on Ebay, think same style as Jack Olsen's impressive garage (never been too proud to copy a good idea when I see one, thank's Jack) Right hand side of the garage I've designed/built a large enough space to install a triple stacker 4 post lift. This is the most suitable lift I've found so far. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1632435201.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1632435226.jpg It's going to cause a hell of a lot of confusion when people walking/driving past see the front of a car peering out of the front upstairs window and the roof line of a different car through the very high gable end window :D |
Interesting…
Never seen one of those before. |
Very nice, Captain!
What is going to be the pecking order for the cars on the lift? |
I’ve never seen one of those, but it’s very interesting. Hopefully, you’ve made the slab super thick under the feet of it!

I need to keep the floor level clear as my 1st project will be full chassis up restoration of my daily driver a 94 Toyota 4Runner. Want another 25yrs of life out of it and the English salty road winters are taking their toll :( Also would like to bring my Gen 1 Toyota 4Runner home too Curses, I need more space :( |
You put the leakiest ones on the bottom.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1632440564.jpg Over spec'd it as at the time of pouring I wasn't exactly sure where the lift feet would be and how many feet there would be |
Captain, you rascal you!.
You never know what you are going to see in an 'old' stone building in the UK,. One day, riding in Shropshire, we passed by an outbuilding with what looked like a full on rally car visible through the window. Later I wondered if it might have a connection with the chaps from Bad Obsession Motorsport. Great progress on the build. Do you have the access from the upstairs of the house cut through yet? Best Les |
Javadog, they all leak :D
Thanks Les! Not yet, I'm busy finishing off boarding out a loft storage area above the garage where the triple lift will go Original 2ft thick stone walls don't leave any internal room for storage hidey holes so I'm quite pleased I've managed to create a decent sized space. Good job too as we're tripping over boxed up stuff  Hoping to start knocking through to the old part of the house next week |
My brother had some sheet metal bent up as 'rails' for his lift. Set them across the existing 'rails' and effectively doubled his storage capacity.
Works well in his case as it got his lift inside and stored more cars too. I'll see if I can find a pic. |
|
Scott, the simplicity of your brothers idea is genius!
Now if I can find some lightweight cars I like under 11.5ft long then I could easily fit in 6 cars on the triple stacker lift  |
