Nerf bars - running boards
I need to get a new set of chrome nerf bars for an 01 Tacoma. There are $100 sets and $300 sets. I would hope that the chrome on the $300 sets would last a good 5 years+ vs. the $100 sets that would rust after a good rainfall. Lots of positive reviews on both cost tiers but they aren't long term.
Anyone here have a set in a rough climate that have lasted? Looking for quality brands that have stood the test of time. Probably just going to get these https://www.jegs.com/i/Westin/978/25-0745/10002/-1?CAWELAID=1710576659&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=15769068431&CATCI=aud-224375369591 ![]()

What are the prices for polished SS ? I would think that would hold up better than chrome but I'm no expert .

Does Toyota (TRD) make a set of those for the Tundra? They might cost a little bit more but maybe they will last longer than some Chinese made ones....

How about some alum. ones?
I tried to get some aluminium ones for my F-550 but couldn't find any that i liked so I welded up some diamond plate steel ones.

Hey Pete, thought of you today, saw 3 semi's flipped off the side of the road today. 3 separate accidents. Drive safely!
Want to stay chrome, the tube shape on there now works/looks great on the truck. No luck on Toyota factory bars.

I am on my third set of Westin step bars. Paid for the first set...the other two they replaced free. Westin is very good with their lifetime warranty...even if it's due to the salt covered roads around here.
After mounting the first set...it's very easy and quick to switch a new set in. The mounting brackets stay and two bolts hold each bar in place. ![]()

Thanks Steve, that's exactly the kind of experience I was looking for. Will get the Westins.
Nice truck!
