Recommended Ghost towns around Colorado Springs

Heading to CS in August. Anyone recommend a good ghost town around CS that the walk is under a mile. We are heading south from there to Taos so any in between suggestions would be helpful too. Thanks.

Go see Bishop Castle the worlds longest one man project. Not to far off I25 and minimal walking...

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.

Glorieta Pass was a civil war battle. The Colorado contingent was commanded by Col Chivington, better known for the Sand Creek massacre. Not far from Taos.

I've done better visiting Indian war battlefields. There isn't much left of ghost towns. A Duck search will point the way to what's left in the Springs. Driving Pikes Peak is always fun.

Still ingrained in my memory from 4 decades ago....leaving CS, following an old AAA map (where they laid out the route)....a "highway" to Cripple Creek....or not . One of the most scenic, neck stretching (looking up) trips I'd ever had...I was used to the Smokey Hills....couldn't call them old ranges mountains any longer .

Yes, Canyon City to Cripple Creek is a nice drive, some unpaved but doable in a rental car. Not really a ghost town however.

With the current real estate market - I'm not sure there are any ghost towns in the front range of CO anymore.

There are no more ghost towns in Colorado or Utah.

They've all been picked over by people in the last 40-50 years or longer. People that have stolen everything.

Or, some city council idiot decides to "renovate" the town as a tourist attraction.. So they rebuilt it all, with nice new wood...

You could possibly get way up in the mountains and find an abandoned mine site, but even that's changed..

Agree with ckcarr..there are no more ghost towns around COS, with the massive amounts of people who moved into the area in the last decade, it has turned into a booming metropolis with commercialism at its finest.

Not near the Springs but Capital City still stands. 8 or 9 miles up Engineer Pass outside Lake City.

Alpine Loop is a great 4x4 trip.
