Recommendations in Santa Fe and Taos
Going with family in August. Any recommendations to do with a 16 year old boy, 19 year old girl and wife of an age I will not mention?
We like to eat and can hike a couple miles. We like historic stuff too. Thanks for your help. |

On the main square in Santa Fe and is great:
https://www.plazacafesantafe.com/ This one is by the RR station and has been on Diners Drive ins and Dives, equally as good: Tomasita's – Serving classic Northern New Mexican Cuisine for over 40 years! Also, look for Alien Beer and a beer that is made by Monks in NM. The Monk beer is outstanding. https://www.abbeybrewing.biz/monks-ale/ Welcome to Rio Grande & Sierra Blanca Brewing Company! Also visit Loretto Chapel with the historic staircase that shouldn't be standing from an engineering standpoint but is. https://www.lorettochapel.com/info/staircase PS: I think there was another thread similar fairly recently

Go see the Bradbury Science Museum in Los Alamos. Its a MUST do.. Bradbury Science Museum
Also, there are some cave dwellings nearby that are worth seeing also.. At Taos, you can take the chair lift up to the top bowl and walk around and then take it back down, or walk down and then grab lunch. Red River is also close by and has all sorts of summer activities.. (canoeing, horseback, etc..)

In Santa Fe for breakfast or lunch Home - Tia's Website if locals are eating near the plaza..this is the place. They say the breakfast burrito originated here but who knows. Great NM food regardless.
In Taos for www.breakfastmichaelskitchen.com Highly recommend

A lot of the forest are closed down because of the drought. Not sure to what extent.
Hopefully the monsoon season shows up soon. Fingers crossed.

Orlando’s in Taos is my favorite.
In Santa Fe I like what all the other guys said but I also like Maria’s. If you want a delicious but artsy fartsy Santa Fe breakfast experience go to Pasqual’s.

Ya, all of the forest around eagle nest and cinnamon is closed and there have been a few large fires. If you are planning on hiking, your options may be limited unless they get a ton of rain.

Currently only the backcountry in Bandolier is closed. The commonly used trails to the ruins are open. All unpaved trails in the rest of Los Alamos are still closed.

The only crappy thing was the fireworks were an hour late at the Balloon Festival Area. Right after we gave up and left the nice viewing spot we had secured a couple hours earlier. The news (on the web) told us that it was delayed...after we got home. It would have been better to tell us an hour earlier...as everyone was trying to find out on their smart phones. I didn't even bring a gun this time...but I always guard my women.

Was supposedly in WY, but was all filmed in northern NM...much in Las Vegas, NM. Doc Holiday's office (he was a dentist) is still there in old Las Vegas, NM. Last edited by tcar; 07-09-2018 at 04:25 PM.. |
