Fuchs prices

. . . are going up out of sight. Four grand  for a set of 7&8 x 16s:

A930Rocket 07-10-2018 04:41 PM

I remember selling them for $1,000 for a set of four.

Anything air cooled has gone through the roof.

VINMAN 07-10-2018 04:49 PM

Four grand?? That's ridiculous.

Fuch that!

Me too. I was quite smug about getting a grand for a set of wheels.

Zeke 07-10-2018 05:06 PM

And the wheels get older and weaker. This is for trailer queens and Cars and Coffee cars that don't see the light of day during the week. I wouldn't put a set of 30 YO Fuchs to the test on your life, much more mine.

manbridge 74 07-10-2018 05:29 PM

Weak? Do they crack or what? I’ve only seen one that was cracked from a hard impact, still held air.

Reason I’m asking is I see a lot of guys tracking cars still on 40-50 year old wheels....

MBAtarga 07-10-2018 06:20 PM

I guess I need to take my 7 and 9 x 16's off the Targa and put them in a safe deposit box!

911boost 07-10-2018 09:04 PM

Price out some original Speedlines for the 3.6 turbos, holy hell....

Didn't I sell you those?? ;)

I don't think I'd do that.

Aluminum fatigues under repeated stress. Others know far better than me, but commercial airplanes have to undergo very extensive checks, designated A-D, with D checks being basically a disassembly and replacement of lots of aluminum structural components. Actually, there are also E checks, but they are rare; lots of airplanes get retired at that stage.

I feel comfortable using Fuchs wheels for street use on non-race rubber on what is now a classic car, but not much more than that. That said, I pulled the original Fuchs off my car and stuck them in storage!

Yup. When you add an extra zero to the price of an air cooled 911, all of the parts seem to get an extra zero as well. Paying $4k for wheels for your $100k 911, when put in perspective, is the same as paying $800 for wheels for your $20k 911. You know, 5 years ago when they were still reasonably priced.

slow&rusty 07-11-2018 03:55 AM

Ruf wheels are also bringing mortgage money too

onewhippedpuppy 07-11-2018 04:15 AM

These threads make me sad, because they are a good reminder of why I will probably never own another air cooled 911.

Shaun @ Tru6 07-11-2018 05:18 AM

I'm happy for Danny, the seller, good guy, but never thought those would go for so much. $1500 is the real price for a typical set of 7x8x16s. My guess is someone wanted the 76 date codes.

So true.

Yes, if you read the thread, it was all about the date codes. geez...

I will say that the balloon pricing seems to be trending back down from the highest point a year ago or so but still stupid high...

911 Rod 07-11-2018 05:45 AM

Maybe I can sell my 8's and 9's and buy a Boxster. :D

They are slightly less stupid, but I don't think we'll ever see them back to a reasonable price point for a fun driver type car. At least not for me.

VincentVega 07-11-2018 07:14 AM

I try to ignore the 911's I sold or passed up. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Your car looked great with the Fuchs....

Evans, Marv 07-11-2018 09:48 AM

That's crazy. I guess I'd better put another lock on the storage unit where I keep the original five deep sixes for my car.

gtc 07-11-2018 12:28 PM

Crazy.
It looks like you can buy a brand new set of 7 & 8 x 16" fuchs from Porsche for $4,338.

Ruf's wheel has been about 800-1000 bucks a piece for a long time.

Yes. You first forced me to fork over those pre-escalation Porsche dollars. I did send them out to Al Reid for refinishing. I’ve got about $2k into the set.

I think it's a reflection of the current state of the bubble, only the best cars are going for top dollar these days. I'm restoring a 76 Carrera 3.0 for a customer to as "seen on the showroom floor" condition making it a pain in the butt cross between a restoration and preservation. Took me 9 months and a ton of luck to find front and rear date matched Koni struts and shocks, 23 75. It's this level of detail that is setting cars apart these days.

fintstone 07-11-2018 02:10 PM

Hard to imagine that they are so valuable. I suspect my 911s are pretty plain jane...but they do have perfect bodies and paint as I hardly ever drive them...even though they are in very good mechanical condition. Mine seem less special today to me than when I bought them. Guess I just take them for granted. No time to drive them and no one I know really appreciates them but me..so not even really any bragging rights. Oh well. Maybe when I retire I will have more time/interest in hobbies.
