LeMans is a true classic film. It's part documentary, fiction, and times past. I want to like this movie, but I don't. What it lacks is heart.

What it lacks is plot and dialogue.

Yeah, I had never seen the movie. The cars are cool but the movie is, dare I say, a bit boring. Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk

With its somewhat narrow focus on motorsport, it was not that well received when first released, but has since attained cult status with enthusiasts the world over.

It's mostly gratuitous shots of cars but then again, what more does one really need in a movie?! It's a masterpiece compared to the horrible CGI/ live action shots from ford vs. ferrari, what a mess that movie was.

Well, apart from the poor Lolas that get dressed up as something like a 917 and crashed. Hard to not see that.

Actually, it's a very subtle movie; more documentary than drama, action, sci-fi, love story. It has those elements but it not about those things. The build up sequence is masterfully constructed. From the slow drive to the point of last year's crash, remembering the shock and the pain, through to the point where your adrenaline and nerves have peaked as a driver at the start of a race, but have calmed by the end of the first lap as you settle into a groove - thus the jazz music. For such a thinly dialogued movie there is a lot said - that is Steve McQueen as an actor (or as Tuco said: "If you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk"). The trailer scene where he discusses his racers philosophy, that is autobiographical. As a kid, this middle bit in the film was blah blah blah; as an adult its far more realistic and relatable. And, of course, there is the end sequence. Who is going to win? Will our hero, who already failed again, save the day? The typical overproduced movie today would. Not here. The hero fails. And waits to be alive again at the next event. This movie is in the details, not the flash. Last edited by 917_Langheck; 03-02-2025 at 08:17 AM..

A local mostly Ferrari group rented out a theater and I got to watch it on the big screen. The idea of watching it on youtube kinda fades after that experience. It has some very nice footage in it, and some very nice cars. They ran a Porsche entered in the race as a camera car collecting footage. For me, the BOP, and attempt to manipulate close races in the TV and post TV era makes racing less interesting. The movie is a gem, and well done. Different era, and I'm glad it gives this millennial a bigger window into it.

If you have raced W2W on the racetrack @ 8/10 to 10/10 the movie relates directly to you in every sense. Steve McQueen portrayed a race car driver as best as I've ever seen in a big screen movie.

According to this book, he was getting plenty off-track action...much to the dismay of his wife Nellie. A good read if you're interested in the film's backstory.

I also noticed the tribute to David Piper for his sacrifice during the movie. Seems he had a bit of a wreck and was injured enough to warrant a below the knee leg amputation. Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk

Poor Dixie...not chick flick enough for you? First saw the movie at the 1971 Sun Valley Parade. It was showing all week. Your parade badge was the entry ticket. Buddy Marty & I watched it at least 3 times. Then I bought a tape, then the CD. Love it from opening to end. Much of the footage is of the 1970 race, making an authentic record of the actual cars that were entered. Yes, it cost Mcqueen his marriage and much of his fortune. The movie reviews were not kind...

I'll take Francoise Hardy from Grand Prix. I mean, the first scene in this video where she gives 'the look' after he asks what she does. Wow.

That movie came out when I was 10 years old. I must have gone to see it at the theatre at least 10 times. Back then movies played for months. I just watched it 2 weeks ago.
