Who has the best chemical or the best technique for soap scum removal from a shower floor?

Vinegar, CLR, that purple industrial cleaner from Home Depot....
The purple HD stuff will eat your skin if not gloved.

Muriatic acid if you want some excitement.

We haven had very good results with Mr Clean magic erasers.

Vinegar. Lay a bath towel in there, pour a gallon or two of the cheap white vinegar on it and let it sit there and soak overnight. Then scrub with a scotch brite. Works better than CLR, Lime-Away, or any other 'magic' cleaner.

For soap scum any cheap shampoo will work too.

Soap scum or hard water deposit? Any over the counter spray will do the trick like Tilelex (sp?). Plug the drain with a balloon and dpray away or drown it in vineger.

My GF asked me this same question. I said Golden Products have been getting very good reviews. Golden Kitchen is very popular, as is Golden Bathroom. And for her to go to the supermarket and ask for Golden Shower.

Can Golden Bathroom products be used in toilets? I have a well with high manganese content, which leaves black stains over time. I'm thinking of draining the water & using Barkeeper's Friend with one of those magic erasers to see how it works. If "Golden Bathroom" might work, I'll try that if I can find it here.

Bought a few of these at the $ store...removed pad from one of them, glued a green Scotch pad to it and use that. Sometimes I'll add some Barkeeper's Friend to chase hard deposits.

Edit: Sometimes I'll close the valve, flush the toilet to get the water down...then BK's friend can work better.

CLR is muriatic acid aka Hydrochloric acid aka pool acid. It is simply "watered down". 2 gal of concentrated acid is available at Home Depot for $12.99

A couple of notes:

If you are going to use muriaic acid, you need to dilute it. And it is always Acid into water. 20:1 or 10:1 should do it.

Use heavy duty gloves.
Use goggles or safety glasses
Wear clothes you don't care about
Keep baking soda nearby in case you need to neutralize it

Don. I like that thing the way it is for cleaning windshields. I'm going to look for one, I'm a bit hesitant to use Scotch(bright?) pads since I used one once many years ago to clean a really dirty windshield and could see faint swirls in the glass. So if a pad like that makes swirls on the porcelain, it will make it harder to get rid of the stains later on. I did plan on draining the bowl. If the magic pads & Barkeeper's Friend don't work, I might go for something more aggressive.

We tried several types of cleaners on our marble shower stall. It had been about 8 years since installation and the stone had turned very cloudy with soap building up on it. As a last effort I opened a can of acetone and with a cloth wiped one tile. I waited a while and came back, the marble tile literally looked like it had just been installed.
I slowly cleaned the rest over a period of 2 days (the fumes are intense, hard to hold your breath that long) and later resealed it with the stone sealer. It looks much much better. The stuff is nasty but seems to work. It doesn't seem to clear out mildew though.

Razor blade.

That's what I use on my fiberglass shower/tub. Chemicals never work well enough, you're always chasing them with something more expensive, more time consuming, whatever. Basic razor blade takes everything off of fiberglass, ceramic, tile, whatever.

I get this from Menards, it works great.
