Recommendations for reaidential architect?
Guys I'm here in Sacramento
Wife and I just bought our first home, it's a small 2 bed 1 bath....bought it from my in laws We have some equity in it now, I have a bit of money saved, albeit not much, still paying down student loans and car loans, but we do want to know based on the vision we have for the house, will the equity and cash be enough to build what we want Mainly to give us clarity, so I am looking for an architect in Sacramento, specifically 95819 -wife and I know what we want and it's not too difficult -we have the original blue prints from when it was built in 1940 - looking for someone we can consult with and envision this properly so we can get some bids to find clarity on building now or waiting until we have kids that need the extra rooms Let me know!!! The talented guy that worked for me many years ago is in Arizona, that's as close as I know someone unfortunately.
Registration is done by state, California is unique because of the earthquake situation. Clients have found me though my website, Google is your friend. Some of the better builders regularly work with a select group of architects and additions are sort of a specialty. My friendly builders bring me most of my work. FYI: the term "Design/Build" should have a disclaimer with it saying "this design can only be built by me". Meaning should you enter into a relationship with a so-called design/builder and don't like his price, you may not be able to have someone else build that design without fear of getting sued. Read those contracts carefully. If the design/builder says you are buying a design service with no obligation that he alone can bid on it, then just great. This however is not typical because the design/builder doesn't want the liability of unauthorized changes and being held to unknown quality of things out of his/her control. His/Her drawing can be sparse and minimal because they are going to build it their own way and can provide more detail if an inspector or plan reviewer makes a request. As an architect if I know who's building it and can trust them to fill in the blanks I can save documentation time. New to me builders always demand more and are prone to scapegoating, not fun for anyone.

Not sure if you are looking for someone local, but our friend is the founder of a firm in Seattle. She handled a massive remodel of our Seattle home, and was absolutely brilliant.
https://allied8.com/ Leah Martin is the founder.

Totally unrelated, other than architect. My honorary nephew came by today to use my stuff to change oil in his beater. He works construction. Evidently his boss is upset, because the architect he's used for years gave him notice. Architect said he would finish the current project, but after that he was done.
Why? Architect was Oregon's $151 million Powerball winner.
