Dish TV customers....feedback please.
Just curious how frequently you lose TV signal due to weather? I had Dish installed at my parents' house about a year ago, and according to Mom, they lose the signal quite often....several times this week alone, and it doesn't have to be a severe storm. I'm waiting for her to get me the signal/error codes. Something isn't right however. I had DirecTV for years, and worked with VSAT technology back in the 80's (even before Wayne
), so I am quite familiar with the gotchas...severe weather, etc. but something is wrong here . Any feedback is appreciated...thanks!

Take a tv out near the dish. Set it to the signal strength screen in the user settings.
Push on each corner of the dish to see if the signal increases. If it does..loosen it up and reset. They might be on the fringe of a good setting and bad weather affects it quickly.

. I was there when the tech set it up....he had a couple of choices (as I recall) as to which "birds" to point at, no obstructions at their house, etc. and as I recall...a strong "dialed in" signal. I thought of you yesterday btw....four more sliders relocated to the big lake

Dish since 1994. Rarely lose signal unless a heavy, wet snow on the dish.....

Parents have it in the country with no obstructions and they only lose signal during heavy storms and snow. They did have issues with the first dish though because of wind. Any sort of wind and the signal went bad. They replaced the dish and everything has been fine since.

One thing your parent "could" do without getting on the roof is pull up the signal strength on the tv set and just see where it is. Strong? weak? etc.... without even getting on the roof.
If the baseline is moderate/weak, then you have a clue. |

I have had Dish for about 15 years. Really has to be thick cloud cover out of the south to kill my signal. Their techs have a signal strength meter they use to aim the dish.

When we had it in SoCal we lost signal twice a year because of the sun. Mom an dad have had it for years and have had issues and Dish replaced the dish and moved it up on the roof, still the same issues in that it drops now and then for 30-45 seconds and comes back on. They have also had issues with their receivers, I think they are on the fourth one in the last 8 years. The original had no issues and it only started when they got the HD signal/receivers.

Have a tech coming out next week...had to speak to a supervisor first...."we can't escalate it or issue a service call if it's weather related"

The supervisor understood completely. Loss of signal is to be expected during a heavy storm, etc., but not several times a week, over and over, and over. Once in a while....OK, but as you know, it rains here...some
.

While I was racing the 914-6 we had a large toy hauler to take it to the races with. So we could have our regular TV shows I bought a portable sat dish, stand, signal finder and a chunk of coax cable. I also had a spare receiver that I would get activated for 3 or 4 days for $5 and once I found the satellites we could watch our shows like the science channel or MHC or AHC or on one weekend the 24 hours of Lemans. Sold it all with the trailer which helped it get the price I wanted.

Have had Dish now for 2-3 yrs. During hurricane Irma last year we never lost the signal, amazing. We will have some minor loss during some serious T-storms, which are almost weekly here during the summer. Never a long term loss and very infrequent minor very temp losses. I was a skeptic of Sat here, but generally happy with them.
