Brian France and Sag Harbor DUI
From the Watkins Glen thread:

If it weren't for the astronomical real estate prices this seems like the ideal American semi rural retreat near enough to The Big Apple. |

It's a summer cabin place, not really a year-round residency place as I've always understood. Like a lot of the Hamptons.

I think I understand that but it seems like these "summer places" are turning more and more into full time residences. This has happened in our local mountain communities. And with Airbnb I bet those houses are full year round.
So, I know this is kind of a dual thread, why would France wanna be there other than the fact that NASCAR raced 200 miles away Sunday? Didn't look swanky, just nice and homey. What did I miss? (Added) — The place looks like Newport Beach CA in the 50's. OK, I found the downtown section. Looks like Larchmont, Denis. Right down to the diagonal street parking. And it looks like a very cool place to hang out. I guess ol' Brian can hang out wherever he pleases. Now he's screwed. He'll be hanging out doing community service and doing meetings. Sag Harbor isn't that close to the Big Apple...unless you have a plane. In order to get there from Manhattan on land, you have to run the gauntlet of Long Island traffic. I live in NJ just 2 miles from midtown NYC as the crow flies, so I know traffic - Long Island is the worst (IMO).

If he only could've gotten arrested in, say, Dawsonville Georgia driving a hopped up Chevy with an open case of white lightening on the front seat .... that would've been marketing genius. This? Not so much.

Damn right, that might have brought some of the good ole' boys back. Oxy in your Lexus in the Hamptons is way too white collar.

Yeah, if he would've been in a Dodge Hellcat drunk on moonshine he might have lured Chrysler back into the game!

Nothing unusual about him driving a Lexus giving the massive marketing push the parent company does in NASCAR.
Kyle Bush got his speeding ticket in a yellow LFA. Denny Hamlin had a Yellow LFA Nurburgring edition. Toyota pushes for a lot of brand exposure at NASCAR events. |

He's got problems alright. A lot of empty seats on the TV screen whenever I happen to brieflytune in. I was a fan but it doesn't capture my attention any longer.
I like Indy car racing much more than NAPCAR.

Retired, finally

In that case you probably missed the best race of the year last weekend. Chase Elliott showed Truex and Busch how it should be done at the Glen.

It was good, the race on Saturday was interesting as well. The Glen is one of the few that I try to put eyeballs on anymore. The mile and a half ovals don't hold my attention past the first stage.

I bet there were dozens of DUIs in that state that night. Only his gets publicity because of the name. I hope he has to pay a high price for DUI. He will just call a top attorney, he will pay a hefty fine and maybe donate to a reelection campaign, and it will all go away. The media will soon forget it and life goes on.

BF used to be a decent race driver in the Daytona Prototypes. I didn't say he was Scott Pruitt, just a driver that could get the thing around the track.

Actually I lived closer than Ron. Sag Harbor is great. The low key alternative to the Hamptons. Unique because you can get across to the N Shore by traversing Shelter Island. And no, you probably can't afford to live there. You think Smell A traffic is bad you ain't seen nothing like LI traffic during the summer. Everyone and their brother trying to get out East on one lane roads. The yuppies don't even drive out to the Hamptons anymore. They've been taking helo ferries for years now. Ron was a unique guy. Used to pop by my place every now and then.

Loved Sag Harbor. Spent alot of time there early 90's... Bridgehampton Raceway, my favorite track. Until they turned it intp a golf course. Drove the 'bridge, drank and slept in Sag Harbor.
